Passenger Transport Shift to Green Mobility – Assessment Using TIMES Model

open access: yesEnvironmental and Climate Technologies, 2022
The transport sector accounts for about one-third of the final energy consumption in Latvia, most of which are fossil fuels in road transport. Fossil fuel consumption increases emissions and demands an immediate change in mobility habits to achieve ...

Climate-neutral aviation: will it fly?

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract The aviation sector must substantially reduce its climate impacts to reach net-zero goals. Such a reduction, however, must not be limited to flight CO2 emissions, since such a narrow focus leaves up to 80% of climate impacts unaccounted for – especially with further growth of air traffic.

Assessment of the Potential of European Union Member States to Achieve Climate Neutrality

open access: yesSustainability
Climate neutrality is the main environmental goal set for the European Union Member States until 2050. EU economies can achieve this ambitious climate goal by reducing the emission intensity of economies, which has been achieved for many years by ...

Key dimensions of cities' engagement in the transition to climate neutrality.

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Management, 2023
Urbanization and the concentration of energy-consuming economic activities make cities responsible for more than 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, cities are becoming increasingly vulnerable to climate change impacts. The European

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Climate neutrality : policy scenarios for emissions trading [PDF]

open access: yes
The European Commission has confirmed plans to enshrine a 90% greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target by 2040 into law, in line with the European Climate Law’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Achieving the 2030 interim target is crucial, with

Electroacupuncture Improves the Learning and Memory by Modulating Hippocampal Glucose Metabolism through IGF1/IGF1R Signaling in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electroacupuncture (EA) ameliorates learning and memory function in 5×FAD mice by regulating the brain glucose metabolic network. This neuroprotective effect is closely related to enhancing neuronal energy utilization via the IGF1/IGF1R signaling pathway.

Unraveling the climate neutrality of wood derivatives and biopolymers

open access: yesRSC Sustainability
This work compares fossil-based polymers to wood derivatives and polylactic acid using a lifecycle scenario analysis. The aim is to unravel the climate neutrality and advantages of bio-based polymers like wood derivatives.

Targeting the PDK1/c‐Myc/SOX10 Signaling in Oligodendrocytes Alleviates Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work reveals that oligodendrocyte homeostasis, mediated by PDK1, is a critical determinant of neuropathic pain (NPP) pathogenesis. Disruption of PDK1 in oligodendrocytes impairs SOX10‐dependent myelination programs through c‐Myc accumulation, leading to disrupted myelination and the pathophysiology of NPP.

Forced response and internal variability changes in the hydrological cycle and general circulation in a hot world beyond 2100 in the Community Earth System Model

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Climate change affects both the mean state and its variability. Hence, the decomposition of climate variability into a forced response and internal variability is essential to understand climate change.
