Climate Policy and Development [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
We suggest a development-compatible refunding system designed to mitigate climate change. Industrial countries pay an initial fee into a global fund. Each country chooses its national carbon tax. Part of the global fund is refunded to developing and industrial countries, in proportion to the relative emission reductions they achieve.

Climate Change Policy, and Policy Change in China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Solving the climate change problem by limiting global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will necessitate action by the world’s two largest emitters, the United States and China. Neither has so far committed to quantitative emissions limits.

An emission pathway classification reflecting the Paris Agreement climate objectives

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment, 2022
Greenhouse gas emissions pathways compatible with the Paris Agreement simultaneously pursue warming of less than 1.5 °C, very likely never exceed 2 °C and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by the second half of the century.

Soil carbon sequestration potential bounded by population growth, land availability, food production, and climate change

open access: yesCarbon Management, 2023
Improving soil management to enhance soil carbon sequestration (SCS)—a cost-efficient carbon dioxide (CO2) removal approach—can result in co-benefits or trade-offs.

Ambiguity and Climate Policy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Economic evaluation of climate policy traditionally treats uncertainty by appealing to expected utility theory. Yet our knowledge of the impacts of climate policy may not be of sufficient quality to justify probabilistic beliefs. In such circumstances, it has been argued that the axioms of expected utility theory may not be the correct standard of ...

Discounting and Climate Policy [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
The social rate of discount is a crucial driver of the social cost of carbon (SCC), that is, the expected present discounted value of marginal damages resulting from emitting one ton of carbon today. Policy makers should set carbon prices to the SCC using a carbon tax or a competitive permits market. The social discount rate is lower and the SCC higher

Assessing the effectiveness of the EU nature restoration law measured against the CBD target to preserve biodiversity

open access: yesEnvironmental Sciences Europe
The pace of species extinction and the destruction of nature may be even more dramatic than the speed of the climate crisis itself. The EU Nature Restoration Law (NRL), adopted in the summer of 2024, is intended to partially remedy damage to nature in EU
