Mapping Europe into local climate zones [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2019
Cities are major drivers of environmental change at all scales and are especially at risk from the ensuing effects, which include poor air quality, flooding and heat waves. Typically, these issues are studied on a city-by-city basis owing to the spatial complexity of built landscapes, local topography and emission patterns. However, to ensure knowledge

The effects of cultivar and climate zone on phytochemical components of walnut (Juglans regia L.)

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, 2020
The diversity of cultivars and variation in phytochemical components pose a great threat to the security of foods that contain walnut. The nutrient values of walnut are stipulated according to phytochemical components, which are driven by internal and ...

Climate Change Projections of Temperature Over the Coastal Area of China Using SimCLIM

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2021
Facing the western Pacific Ocean and backed by the Eurasian continent, the coastal area of China (hereafter as CAC) is sensitive and vulnerable to climate change due to the compound effects of land-ocean-atmosphere, and thus is prone to suffer huge ...

Analytical investigation of the decrease in the size of the habitable zone due to limited CO$_2$ outgassing rate

open access: yes, 2016
The habitable zone concept is important because it focuses the scientific search for extraterrestrial life and aids the planning of future telescopes. Recent work has shown that planets near the outer edge of the habitable zone might not actually be able

CLIMATE CHANGES AND LANDSCAPE RESPONSES OF CHINA DURING THE PAST 40 YEARS (1979–2018) UNDER KÖPPEN-GEIGER CLIMATE CLASSIFICATION [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2020
Under the background of global warming, China with diverse climate types is experiencing dramatic climate change. In this study, we produced a series of climate type map of China at 0.1° resolution from 1979 to 2018 using Köppen-Geiger climate ...

A Low-order Model of Water Vapor, Clouds, and Thermal Emission for Tidally Locked Terrestrial Planets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the spirit of minimal modeling of complex systems, we develop an idealized two-column model to investigate the climate of tidally locked terrestrial planets with Earth-like atmospheres in the habitable zone of M-dwarf stars.

How relevant are local climate zones and urban climate zones for urban climate research? Dijon (France) as a case study [PDF]

open access: yesUrban Climate, 2018
Several typologies of urban surface properties have been proposed, in recent years, for urban heat island studies and climate modeling. Some were specifically developed for cities and urban climate issues, like the Urban Climate Zones, and the more recent Local Climate Zones.

The adoption of ceiling fans as an alternative cooling strategy to air-conditioning: what can we learn from building sustainability index certified homes?

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
Ceiling fans have been promoted as an alternative cooling technique to save energy, while their adoptions in the residential sector have yet to be investigated.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Evaluating Bias Correction Methods Using Annual Maximum Series Rainfall Data from Observed and Remotely Sensed Sources in Gauged and Ungauged Catchments in Uganda

open access: yesHydrology
This research addresses the challenge of bias in Remotely Sensed Rainfall (RSR) datasets used for hydrological planning in Uganda’s data-scarce, ungauged catchments.
