Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Urban Shrinkage and Surface Urban Heat Islands: Does Population Decline Lead to Cooling? A Spatiotemporal Analysis of China's 89 Shrinking Cities (2001–2019)

open access: yesEarth's Future
Numerous studies have examined how urban expansion exacerbates Surface Urban Heat Island intensity (SUHII), yet limited attention has been paid to whether and how urban shrinkage mitigates SUHII.

Differential impacts of compound dry- and humid-hot events on global vegetation productivity

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
IntroductionThe increasing frequency of compound heat events (CHEs), including compound dry-hot events (CDHEs) and compound humid-hot events (CHHEs), poses significant threats to terrestrial ecosystems.

The macroinvertebrate seedbank promotes community persistence in temporary rivers across climate zones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
1. Aquatic macroinvertebrates inhabiting temporary rivers are typically described as having low resistance to riverbed drying. However, little research has examined the ‘seedbank’ within dry riverbed sediments, which comprises aquatic life stages that ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Regional analysis of crop and natural vegetation in West Africa based on NDVI metrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In West Africa, rainfall variability dynamics are often considered as the major driver of vegetation production. Land use shifts have also to be taken into account when analyzing changes in vegetation production.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.
