Climate Change and Climate Science [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2004
T here is a paradoxical gulf between the importance of Earth's climate and the level of public interest in it. To be sure, tornadoes, killer heat waves, and floods make the headlines, but it's important to remember that weather is not climate. Some of the public's confusion may relate to a certain failure to make that distinction, as in the occasional ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Review of WRF for weather and climate change over the Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesAdvances in Climate Change Research
The state-of-the-art Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) is an indispensable tool for studying weather and climate change; however, its application over the Tibetan Plateau—a region characterized by high altitude and complex topography—remains ...

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Climate change perceptions and adaptation by Sebei pastoralists in Mount Elgon, Uganda: a qualitative survey

open access: yesJournal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine
Background Pastoralists’ sedentarisation and agriculturalisation might increase their vulnerability to climate change impacts, but few studies have investigated if this is the case in mountain areas.

Influence of meteorological factors, snow properties and climatic changes on evaporation from the snow cover surface

open access: yesВодное хозяйство России: проблемы, технологии, управление, 2023
The contribution of evaporation from the surface of the snow cover to the water balance of the land surface is a little-studied area of hydrology. Th e growing relevance of these studies increases with climate warming and more active involvement of the ...

A description on decadal changes in warm season average of precipitation over the Caspian coast of Iran territory [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات کاربردی علوم جغرافیایی, 2022
Change in precipitation features is one of climate change outcome. Change in precipitation amount, especially in warm season, may influences climato-environmental phenomenon as well as human activity.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

A decadal trend of juvenile European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax, L.) responses to climate patterns in the Mondego estuary, Portugal

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2015
Estuarine systems support the life cycle stages of commercially important marine fish and are influenced by large and local-scale climatic patterns. Also, extreme events triggered by climate changes may influence the functioning of nursery grounds and ...
