Applications of local climate zone classification in European cities: A review of in situ and mobile monitoring methods in urban climate studies

open access: yesOpen Geosciences
Abstract This review explores the application of local climate zones (LCZs) through various measurement methods, with a focus on mobile and in situ data collection in European urban environments. The selection of articles for review was guided by specific keywords and a structured literature search process.

Sensitivity of Dar Es Salaam coastal aquifer to climate change with regard to seawater intrusion and groundwater availability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents the initial results of three years of investigation activities, carried on in the Dar es Salaam coastal plain (Tanzania) by the Adapting to Climate Change in Coastal Dar es Salaam (ACC-DAR) project, a cofounded research project ...

Vitamin D Regulates Olfactory Function via Dual Transcriptional and mTOR‐Dependent Translational Control of Synaptic Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Vitamin D (VitD) modulates olfactory function by remodeling dendrodendritic synapses in tufted cells through vitamin D receptor‐dependent transcriptional and translational mechanisms. VitD regulates synaptic protein translation partially via mTOR signaling.

USP9X as a Candidate Mediator of Prenatal Aspirin‐Induced Ovarian Reserve Reduction in Offspring Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study suggests that prenatal aspirin exposure is associated with reduced ovarian reserve in offspring, associated with HDAC1‐linked epigenetic downregulation of Usp9x as a candidate mechanism. These preclinical findings provide new insights into fetal‐origin ovarian disorders and contribute to the evidence base concerning aspirin's gestational ...

Score-driven global climate zones from 1940 to 2024: A new objective climate classification method

open access: yes
We use a novel score-driven climate clustering model to study climate changefrom 1940 to 2024. The model performs a dynamic reclassification of global geographic locations using climate variables. We obtained data from ERA5, the fifth-generation European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalysis.

Chromatin Topology Reconfiguration Orchestrates Thermotolerant Male Fertility via GhAL5 in Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates cotton’s high‐temperature (HT) response using multi‑omics. Dynamic 3D genome changes drive expression bias affecting male fertility. The tolerant line shows controlled chromatin dynamics, while the sensitive line exhibits overactivation.

Gut Microbiota‐Derived Anandamide Mediates the Therapeutic Effects of Urolithin A on Alcohol‐Induced Cognitive and Social Dysfunction via CB1R‐DRD2‐RAP1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Urolithin A (UA) counteracts alcohol‐induced cognitive and social dysfunction (AICSD) via a gut microbiome‐dependent mechanism. UA‐enriched Bacteroids sartorii and Parabacteroids distasonis elevate anandamide (AEA), which activates the CB1R‐DRD2‐Rap1 signaling cascade to drive synaptic repair and reduce neuroinflammation ...

A gradient model of vegetation and climate utilizing NOAA satellite imagery. Phase 1: Texas transect [PDF]

open access: yes
A climatological model/variable termed the sponge (a measure of moisture availability based on daily temperature maxima and minima, and precipitation) was tested for potential biogeograhic, ecological, and agro-climatological applications.

Ecosystem‐Centered Robot Design: Toward Ecoresorbable Sustainability Robots (ESRs)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Robots exploring natural ecosystems can support monitoring and conservation, but must adopt ecosystem‐centered design to avoid pollution, waste, and damage. This review proposes guidelines for co‐designing ecoresorbable sustainability robots (ESRs), uniting materials, robotics, and ecological contexts in a single framework.

Predicting infection of strawberry fruit by Mucor and Rhizopus spp. under protected conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Horticulture
Postharvest spoilage of strawberry grown under protection, caused by Mucor spp. and Rhizopus spp., has recently become more common in the UK, but there is insufficient knowledge to develop and implement integrated management against Mucor and Rhizopus ...
