The Impact of Seasonal Environments in a Tropical Savanna Climate on Forking, Leaf Area Index, and Biomass of Cassava Genotypes

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
Information on the forking, leaf area index, and biomass of cassava for different growing seasons could help design appropriate management to improve yield.

A Universal Interfacial Dipole Strategy for Defect Suppression in Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells With Tunable Bandgaps

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 2D heterointerface with a two‐site anchor bridge suppresses nonradiative recombination at the perovskite/C₆₀ interface by reducing surface defects, elevating the Fermi level, and strengthening the electric field. This strategy enables efficient electron extraction, delivering 26.32% efficiency, 1.217 V Voc, excellent operational stability, and broad ...

Activity schedule and foraging in Protopolybia sedula (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Protopolybia sedula is a social swarming wasp, widely spread throughout many countries in the Americas, including most of Brazil. Despite its distribution, studies of its behavioral ecology are scarce. This study aimed to describe its

Homing in on a key factor of climate change [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2018
The sensitivity of Earth’s climate to atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is a big unknown in predicting future global warming. A compelling analysis suggests that we can rule out high estimates of this sensitivity. The sensitivity of Earth’s climate to atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is a big unknown in predicting future global warming.

Characterization of an Injectable Poly(vinyl alcohol)‐gelatin Hydrogel for Growth Factor Delivery in an Orthopedic Application

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces photo‐crosslinkable tyraminated poly(vinyl alcohol)‐gelatin (PVA‐GT) hydrogels as tunable injectable platforms for tissue engineering and growth factor delivery applications. This schematic illustrates the two developed hydrogel formulations and the experimental workflow used to evaluate their physico‐chemical properties in vitro ...

Oxygen Supply of Islets of Langerhans by Photosynthetically Active Microalgae in Bioprinted Co‐Cultures Maintains Their Function in a Hypoxic Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.

An Innovative Approach for Modeling Crop Yield Response to Fertilizer Nutrients [PDF]

open access: yes
Fertilizer recommendations seldom account for agro-climatic conditions, which are important factors that determine the response to fertilizer and the optimal rate of fertilizer.

Toward an Improved Conceptual Understanding of North American Tree Species Distributions

open access: yes, 2017
Species distributions have often been assumed to represent climatic limitations, yet recent evidence has challenged these assumptions and emphasized the potential importance of biotic interactions, dispersal limitation, and disturbance.
