Does Climate Risk Affect Employment Decisions? International Evidence

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effect of climate risk on corporate employment decisions. Using a large sample from 41 countries, we find a positive association between climate risk and underinvestment in labor, notably manifesting as excessive employee layoffs.

Assessing Upper Tropospheric Jet Streak Proximity Using the Rossby Radius of Deformation

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2016
The Rossby radius of deformation is a parameter that describes the relative role of buoyant and inertial forces for atmospheric phenomena in a flow regime.

Satellite hindcasts of foliar traits reveal a subtle but consistent relaxation of conservativeness in a biodiverse mountain grassland over the last four decades

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Projected warming and drying raise concerns about the resilience of stress‐adapted ecosystems, including the Brazilian Campo Rupestre, an exceptionally biodiverse mountaintop grassland mosaic on ancient, nutrient‐poor substrates. Here, we combine field‐based trait data and long‐term remote sensing to assess the functional structure and temporal ...

Evaluation of Regional Surface Energy Budget Over Ocean Derived From Satellites

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
The energy balance equation of an atmospheric column indicates that two approaches are possible to compute regional net surface energy flux. The first approach is to use the sum of surface energy flux components Fnet,c and the second approach is to use ...

Trends in marine species distribution models: a review of methodological advances and future challenges

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Correlative species distribution models (SDMs) are quantitative tools in biogeography and macroecology. Building upon the ecological niche concept, they correlate environmental covariates to species presence to model habitat suitability and predict species distributions.

Non‐stationary forest responses to hotter droughts: a temporal perspective considering the role of past legacies

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Global change is altering forests worldwide, with multiple consequences for ecosystem functioning. Temporal changes in climate, and extreme, compounded weather events like hotter droughts are affecting the demography, composition and function of forests, leading to a highly uncertain future.

Public Perception of Climate Change and the New Climate Dice

open access: yes, 2012
"Climate dice", describing the chance of unusually warm or cool seasons relative to climatology, have become progressively "loaded" in the past 30 years, coincident with rapid global warming.
