Should more teams “trust the process” of tanking?

open access: yesContemporary Economic Policy, Volume 44, Issue 2, Page 408-425, April 2026.
Abstract In many professional sport leagues, the worst‐performing teams receive higher probability of earning top draft picks. This provides teams incentives to purposefully lose, or “tank,” if they are not likely to contend for the playoffs or championships.

Real‐Time In Vivo Monitoring of Anastomotic Intestinal Ischemia Using Implantable Resorbable Organic Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 16, 18 March 2026.
Resorbable impedance sensors are successfully implanted into porcine small intestinal anastomoses. Impedance was recorded for 2 hours prior, and 2 hours following ischemia induction, and a significant drop in tissue impedance was observed. Abstract Anastomotic failure remains one of the most severe complications in gastrointestinal surgery.

Numerical Analysis of the Scalability of Roller Clinching Processes

open access: yes, 2018
Roller clinching combines the advantages of translational clinching with a continuous feed of the parts to be joined. Challenging tasks are the non-perpendicular impact and retraction of the tools leading to anisotropic joint properties.

Impact of non-rotationally symmetric joint orientation on neighbouring joints and component performance in lap shear specimens [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
This paper discusses the influence of joint orientation with non-rotationally symmetric geometry, on load distribution and structural behavior. The focus is on understanding how changes in the alignment of individual joints affect the distribution of ...
