Examination of Three-Layered Clinch Joints

Key Engineering Materials, 2023
The reliable operation of an engineering structure is highly influenced by the joints of its structural elements. The selection of the applied joints is often determined by the function of the structure. In addition, the requirements for joints must be considered: strength, elongation, sealing, mobility, assembly, safety against loosening, feasibility,

Clinched Joint Tensile Test

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016
This paper describes the experimental shear test of clinched connection of two sheet metal plates. The force-displacement characteristic was obtained using the set of six testing specimens. Also the properties of the clinched joint were identified and were used in the following work including simulation methods and calculations.

Improvement in joint strength and material joinability in clinched joints by electromagnetically assisted clinching

Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2019
Abstract An electromagnetically assisted clinching process is proposed to join a combination of similar and dissimilar materials using a high-speed punch. As the name suggests, an electromagnetic discharge energy is used to accelerate the punch to sufficiently high speeds. Joining similar and dissimilar combinations of carbon fiber reinforced plastic

Mechanical clinching of metal–polymer joints

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2015
Abstract The present investigation is carried out to assess the suitability of the clinching process for production of plastic–metal hybrid joints. To this end, a prototypal apparatus was developed to preheat the sheets before joining. A campaign of experimental tests was carried out on aluminium alloy AA5053 and polystyrene.

Science of Clinch–Adhesive Joints

2010
The idea of “hybrid joints” arises from the need of joining together materials, producing a tough, stiff and lightweight joint. The core concept is: use two different joining techniques, with the aim to increase the strength and gather the advantages of each technique, reducing the drawbacks.
