Indigenous peoples and local community reports of climate change impacts on biodiversity

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Climate change impacts on biodiversity have been primarily studied through ecological research methods, largely ignoring other knowledge systems. Indigenous and local knowledge systems include rich observations of changes in biodiversity that can inform climate change adaptation planning and environmental stewardship.

Полиморфизм окраски медицинской пиявки Hirudo medicinalis (Clitellata, Hirudinida) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Individual elements of the coloration pattern of Hirudo medicinalis are described and analyzed. Longitudinal stripes on the dorsum and the distribution of dark pigment on the venter are used as the basis for the investigation.

Phylogenomics and the evolution of larval feeding habits in the blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Phylogenomic data from anchored hybrid enrichment provide a new phylogeny of Calliphoridae that delimits the family and confirms division into eight monophyletic subfamilies. Fossil‐calibrated divergence times place the origin of Calliphoridae in the mid‐Eocene (ca. 41 Mya) along with other rapidly radiating families of oestroid Diptera. Reconstruction

Biotic Integrity of macroinvertebrate communities along the I-294 corridor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Sampled macroinvertebrates following ILEPA protocol at 7 sites in August–September 2015 in the I-294 corridor and calculated biotic integrity metrics • Assessed sites based on the Qualitative Stream Habitat Assessment Procedure (SHAP) • Measured ...

Assessing the invasion potential of non-native branchiobdellidans: experimental studies of survival, reproduction and competition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The impact of invasive species on the recipient ecosystem can be strongly influenced by the presence of associated symbionts. It is therefore important to evaluate the likelihood of co-introduced symbiont establishment, and this requires an understanding

Multiple full‐length variants of the mitochondrial COI DNA barcode region are prevalent in north European sawflies

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
DNA barcoding is an effective species identification method, but it depends strongly on the assumption that each specimen is represented by a single barcode sequence. Using high‐throughput sequencing, we demonstrate that North European sawflies frequently harbour multiple full‐length, seemingly functional barcode variants within a single individual ...

First record of terrestrial Enchytraeidae (Annelida: Clitellata) in Versailles palace's park, France [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
France can be qualified as terra incognita regarding terrestrial enchytraeids because very little data has been recorded so far in this country. In spring and autumn 2016, enchytraeid communities were investigated in a loamy soil in a meadow located in ...

Far From Roads, Challenges Arise: Unravelling Knowledge Gaps in the Occurrence of Cave‐Restricted Species on the African Continent

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Understanding patterns of biodiversity distribution is fundamental for ecology, biogeography, and conservation. However, persistent challenges arise from the inaccessibility of many regions and habitats. Subterranean environments, in particular, host highly distinctive and specialised faunal assemblages, yet their investigation is hindered by ...
