The surgical treatment of cloaca

Seminars in Pediatric Surgery, 2016
Similar to other anorectal malformations, cloaca also represents a spectrum of defects that goes from "benign" cloaca with a good functional prognosis that can be repaired with a relatively simple surgical technique, to very complex malformations with many anatomic variations that require different surgical maneuvers to be able to successfully ...

The management of a cloaca

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1973
Abstract As a result of our work with isolated hydrometrocolpos as well as with cloacal lesions we feel that the urinary, genital, and gastrointestinal tracts must all be separated from one another in the newborn period. The consequences of temporizing operations is sepsis and urinary tract infection and declining renal function.

Ectopia cloacae—A misnomer

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1969
Abstract The wide variation in the anatomy of the bowel seen in 9 specimens of ectopia cloacae, and in particular, the position of the cecum relative to the bowel openings makes a purely embryologic explanation of the condition unlikely. Prolapse of the developing bowel between the two halves of an exstrophic bladder and its subsequent strangulation ...

Cloaca, Posterior Cloaca and Absent Penis Spectrum

2015
Cloaca This is one of the most extensive chapters of the book because of its relevance. Since 1982, when the first cloaca was repaired via posterior sagittal approach, over 500 cases have been operated by the senior author, and many lessons have been learned.
