Cloacal and Ocular Microbiota of the Endangered Australian Northern Quoll

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2018
The Australian northern quoll is an important predatory marsupial carnivore that is currently endangered due to inappropriate fire regimes, predation, and the spread of invasive cane toads. The microbiota of Australian marsupials has not been extensively

Comparison of Harvested and Nonharvested Painted Turtle Populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Painted turtles (Chrysemys picta) are commercially harvested in large numbers in Minnesota for sale to biological supply companies and the pet trade. We investigated the possible effects of this harvest by comparing size, demography, and catch rates of ...

Wearable and Implantable Devices for Continuous Monitoring of Muscle Physiological Activity: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in materials and device engineering enable continuous, real‐time monitoring of muscle activity via wearable and implantable systems. This review critically summarizes emerging technologies for tracking electrophysiological, biomechanical, and oxygenation signals, outlines fundamental principles, and highlights key challenges and ...

Nest Bacterial Environment Affects Microbiome of Hoopoe Eggshells, but Not That of the Uropygial Secretion. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The study of associations between symbiotic bacterial communities of hosts and those of surrounding environments would help to understand how bacterial assemblages are acquired, and how they are transmitted from one to another location (i.e.

Real‐Time In Vivo Monitoring of Anastomotic Intestinal Ischemia Using Implantable Resorbable Organic Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Resorbable impedance sensors are successfully implanted into porcine small intestinal anastomoses. Impedance was recorded for 2 hours prior, and 2 hours following ischemia induction, and a significant drop in tissue impedance was observed. Abstract Anastomotic failure remains one of the most severe complications in gastrointestinal surgery.

Congenital pouch colon in female subjects

open access: yesJournal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, 2007
Over a period of 5-year (May 2000 to April 2005) 29 patients of congenital pouch colon (CPC) were managed by single pediatric surgeon in the Department of Pediatric Surgery of a tertiary hospital. Of these, 11 were girls (M: F: 1.6:1).

Nanoconfinement‐Steered Molecular Preorganization Enables Efficient Monoethanolamine Degradation through Electronically Modulated High‐Valent Iron–Oxo Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Precise modulation of reaction pathways remains an unresolved challenge in peroxymonosulfate‐activated advanced oxidation processes. The spatial preorganization strategy in engineered confinement architecture enables regioselective bond cleavage in monoethanolamine via synergistic proton–electron transfer, redirecting its degradation from nonselective ...
