Multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli and Tetracycline-resistant Enterococcus faecalis in wild raptors of Alabama and Georgia, USA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Wild birds inhabit in a wide variety of environments and can travel great distances. Thus, wild birds can possibly spread antimicrobial resistance along the way, and this may represent a potential public health concern.

Ophidiomycosis Prevalence and Disease Ecology in a Natrix tessellata (Laurenti, 1768) Population From Northern Italy

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 3, Page 292-305, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Fungal pathogens pose a growing threat to vertebrate biodiversity. In snakes, Ophidiomyces ophidiicola (Oo) has garnered particular concern, although its impact in Europe remains poorly understood. We conducted a season‐long, standardized survey of dice snakes (Natrix tessellata) along the northern shore of Lake Como (Italy) to quantify Oo and

The Role of Dietary Vitamin E in Experimental Listeria monocytogenes Infections in Turkeys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The current study was designed to determine if dietary vitamin E influenced either the gut clearance or levels of peripheral blood CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes in adult turkeys experimentally infected with Listeria monocytogenes.

A Pilot Study on the Prevalence and Characterization of Multidrug‐Resistant Gram‐Negative Bacteria in Chicken and Pork Meat Around Kathmandu District, Nepal

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study investigated multidrug resistance in Gram‐negative bacteria from chicken and pork meat in Kathmandu, isolating 136 strains from 13 samples. Nearly half were multidrug resistant, highlighting contaminated meat as a potential route for zoonotic transmission and the need for antimicrobial resistance monitoring in Nepal.

Viral tropism and detection of clade 2.3.4.4b H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses in feathers of ducks and geese

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza viruses (HPAIVs) display a tissue pantropism, which implies a possible spread in feathers. HPAIV detection from feathers had been evaluated for H5N1 or H7N1 HPAIVs.

Evaluation of DNA Extracted from Timber Rattlesnake (Cotalus horridus) Cloacal and Blood Swabs for Microsatellite Genotyping

open access: yes, 2022
Genetic research is a key component to modern wildlife conservation, but it is contingent on the collection of reliable and high-quality genetic samples. Invasive genetic sampling techniques have potential to negatively impact individuals, which may be prohibitive when working with threatened and endangered species.

A comprehensive embryonic staging series of the turtle Trachemys scripta

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 255, Issue 3, Page 260-320, March 2026.
Abstract Background Turtles hold a unique place in vertebrate evolutionary history, making them critical assets in embryology research. Yet, they remain understudied as potential model organisms in the field. Here, to support experimental manipulations with turtle embryos, we have created a complete normal table of development for comprehensive ...

Genetic Sexing of the African Penguin, Spheniscus demersus Using Noninvasive Guano and Molted Feather Samples

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study developed a noninvasive method for the DNA extraction and PCR‐based genetic sexing of S. demersus using guano and molted feather samples. Two primer sets (CHD1F/R & 2550F/2718R) were used that target sex‐specific length polymorphisms in the CHD1‐Z and CHD1‐W genes on the CHD1 sex chromosomes. Using methods optimized for the extraction of DNA

Use of reverse transcriptase loop-mediated isothermal amplification assay for field detection of Newcastle disease virus using less invasive samples [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2012
A novel nucleic acid amplification method, loop-mediated isothermal amplification, was developed and recently demonstrated detection of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) in tissue samples.

Microbiological and molecular studies on Salmonella spp. isolated from broilers in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, Egypt [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bioscience and Applied Research, 2015
Prevalence of Salmonella pathogen in poultry in Kafr El – Sheikh governorate, Egypt were analyzed in 100 pooled samples from poultry (liver, spleen , cloacal swab, gall bladder ), using culture and PCR based methods. The results showed that S.
