Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

The consequences of temporizing operations is sepsis and urinary tract infection and declining renal function.

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1989
Deep laceration of the perineum after an obstetric injury may result in a cloacal deformity of the anus and vagina, causing complete fecal incontinence. A surgical technique consisting of reconstruction of the perineal body (perineoplasty) with puborectalis interposition and overlapping external sphincteroplasty is described to correct the defect and ...

Pediatrics, 1953
Three newborn premature infants were seen with an unusual and extensive congenital abnormality involving bowel, urogenital tract, bony pelvis and anterior abdominal wall. The term exstrophy of the cloaca is suggested as a simple term for a complex situation. The embryologic development of this anomaly is discussed.

Two cases of exstrophy of the cloaca with myelocystocele are presented. Medical-surgical evaluation of the patient plus social-psychological assessment of the family determined an early decision to initiate therapy in one case in contrast to delayed evaluation and an unsuccessful attempt to treat in the other.

Cloaca, Posterior Cloaca and Absent Penis Spectrum
2015Cloaca This is one of the most extensive chapters of the book because of its relevance. Since 1982, when the first cloaca was repaired via posterior sagittal approach, over 500 cases have been operated by the senior author, and many lessons have been learned.
