Synchronizing Rock Clocks of Earth History

Science, 2008
Calibration of the geological time scale is achieved by independent radioisotopic and astronomical dating, but these techniques yield discrepancies of ∼1.0% or more, limiting our ability to reconstruct Earth history. To overcome this fundamental setback, we compared astronomical and 40 Ar/

PariSync: Clock synchronization in P2P networks

2009 International Symposium on Precision Clock Synchronization for Measurement, Control and Communication, 2009
This paper presents PariSync, a distributed system for clock synchronization in DHT-based peer to peer networks. PariSync is formed by two modules: a topology module, that chooses for each node a small subset of neighbors with which to exchange timing information (piggybacking on the DHT link structure) and an extimation module, that assembles the ...

Clock synchronization in virtual rings

Proceedings Sixth Euromicro Workshop on Real-Time Systems, 2002
A probabilistic algorithm for external clock synchronization is proposed. The algorithm works under the assumption that it is possible to identify a virtual ring among the servers involved, and does not require an upper bound to message transmission delays.

Clock Synchronization and Synchronous Systems

2012
Previous chapters of this book have made a number of uses of clocks or time in distributed protocols. In this chapter, we look more closely at the underlying issues. Our focus is on aspects of real-time computing that are specific to distributed protocols and systems.

Hypercube clock synchronization

Concurrency: Practice and Experience, 1992
AbstractAlgorithms for synchronizing the times and frequencies of the clocks of Intel and Ncube hypercube multiprocessors are presented. Bounds for the error in estimating clock offsets and frequencies are formulated in terms of the clock read error and message transmission time. Clock and communication performance of the Ncube and Intel hypercubes are

Clock synchronization and dispersion

Journal of Optics B: Quantum and Semiclassical Optics, 2002
We present a method to defeat effects of dispersion of timing signals when synchronizing clocks. It is based on the recently proposed 'conveyor belt synchronization' scheme and on the quantum dispersion cancellation effect.

Synchronous Clock Cases

2014
Clocks for domestic use have been produced for four centuries. Historically, clock case design styles have been based on furniture design styles with the obvious constraints that the case must be big enough to enclose the movement, the dial must be legible, it must be possible to set the hands, and only available materials, usually wood, could be used.
