Two hundred and fifty-five women received clomiphene citrate during a 10-year period. Fifty-six were treated diagnostically and one hundred and ninty-nine therapeutically for infertility. It is concluded that clomiphene may aid in confirming the diagnosis and establishing a prognosis in patients with primary or secondary amenorrhea.

We have summarized 697 reported cases of the use of clomiphene citrate for the improvement of semen quality. Basal levels of gonadotropins are useful criteria for the differential diagnosis of hypo- and hypergonadotropic hypogonadism. Patients with an intact hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis are most likely to respond to clomiphene citrate.
