Roles of clonal parental effects in regulating interspecific competition between two floating plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Parental effects can influence offspring fitness, which may further impact interspecific competition. However, few studies have tested the role of clonal parental effects in regulating interspecific interactions and examined the underlying mechanisms. We

Advances in mass clonal propagation of Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis in Congo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Altitudinal Patterns of Leaf Traits and Leaf Allometry in Bamboo Pleioblastus amarus

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Awareness of local-scale variation in leaf traits for a single species and the relationships between these traits and their dependence on altitude might be essential for extrapolating ecophysiological processes from the leaf to the ecosystem level. While

Possibilities and limitations of vegetative propagation in breeding and mass propagation of Norway spruce [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The use of vegetative mass propagation in practical forestry with Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) is limited at present, although its potential to deliver high genetic gains is obvious.

Regional Genetic Structure in the Aquatic Macrophyte Ruppia cirrhosa Suggests Dispersal by Waterbirds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The evolutionary history of the genus Ruppia has been shaped by hybridization, polyploidisation and vicariance that have resulted in a problematic taxonomy. Recent studies provided insight into species circumscription, organelle takeover by hybridization,

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

What drives the shift between sexual and clonal reproduction of Caragana stenophylla along a climatic aridity gradient?

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background The reasons that clonal plants shift between sexual and clonal reproduction have persisted as a knowledge gap in ecological literature. We hypothesized that clonal plants’ shifts between sexual and clonal reproduction in different environments

Hevea rootstock clones development. Building-up new verietal type : a multi-faceted challenge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
With rubber trees occupying about 3.2 million hectares in Indonesia in 2006, the need for planting material from nurseries is rapidly increasing: more than 30 million plants for 2007.
