Amphibian loss alters periphyton structure and invertebrate growth in montane streams. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Anim Ecol, 2022
This paper demonstrates that amphibian loss increases periphyton biomass, causes shifts in algal assemblages and reduces invertebrate growth. It highlights the importance of protecting amphibians in order to maintain normal stream ecosystem functioning, especially in nonforested streams where periphyton in the main energy resource.

Prioritizing conservation in sub-Saharan African lakes based on freshwater biodiversity and algal bloom metrics. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol, 2022
Abstract As agricultural land use and climate change continue to pose increasing threats to biodiversity in sub‐Saharan Africa, efforts are being made to identify areas where trade‐offs between future agricultural development and terrestrial biodiversity conservation are expected to be greatest. However, little research so far has focused on freshwater

Seasonal and intracanopy shifts in the fates of absorbed photons in central Amazonian forests: implications for leaf fluorescence and photosynthesis. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary Recent studies have shown a linear relationship between solar‐induced Chl fluorescence (SIF) and gross primary productivity (GPP) at large scales. However, this relationship diverges at finer leaf scales, particularly in tropical forests with complex canopy structures.

Community-driven variations in snow algae color modulate snow albedo reduction. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary Snow algae blooms visibly alter snow color and surface energy balance, yet the biological basis of this variability remains unclear. We investigated how pigment composition and community structure shape the optical properties of snow algae blooms of distinct colors – red, orange, and green – co‐occurring within the same snowfield in Glacier ...

Wound Healing and Anti-Inflammatory Effect in Animal Models of Calendula officinalis L. Growing in Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesEvid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2012
Calendula officinalis is an annual herb from Mediterranean origin which is popularly used in wound healing and as an anti‐inflammatory agent. In this study, the ethanolic extract, the dichloromethane, and hexanic fractions of the flowers from plants growing in Brazil were produced.

Environmental and human factors shape the trophic ecology of a widespread marine predator. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Anim Ecol
Our study reveals how environmental factors and fishing pressure influence swordfish diet, highlighting trophic shifts under future climate scenarios. We provide a novel framework to strengthen our ability to plan for and manage the redistribution of species under global change ensuring that the energetic needs of predators are met.

Diagnóstico do estado nutricional de N em porta-enxertos de citros, utilizando-se de teores foliares de clorofila [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira De Fruticultura, 2002
