Gas velocity measurements from a close-coupled spray deposition atomizer

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1989
Abstract Gas-atomized melt spraying is used for the manufacture of metallic particulate and spray-deposited preforms. The flow behaviour of the gas in the spray is a critical component of the spraying process. Knowledge of the gas flow field generated by the atomizer is a prerequisite for characterizing the transport phenomena controlling droplet ...

Process modeling gas atomization of close-coupled ring-hole nozzle for 316L stainless steel powder production*

Chinese Physics B, 2021
The paper aims at modeling and simulating the atomization process of the close-coupled ring-hole nozzle in vacuum induction gas atomization (VIGA) for metallic powder production. First of all, the primary atomization of the ring-hole nozzle is simulated by the volume of fluid (VOF) coupled large eddy simulation (LES) model.

Effect of closed-couple gas atomization pressure on the performances of Al-20Sn-1Cu powders

Rare Metals, 2008
Al-20Sn-1Cu powders were prepared by gas atomization in an argon atmosphere with atomizing pressures of 1.1 and 1.6 MPa. The charac-teristics of the powders are determined by means of dry sieving, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy (OM), and X-ray diffractometry (XRD).

Close coupling-wave packet formalism for gas phase nonreactive atom–diatom collisions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1987
In this paper we discuss the adaptation of the close coupling-wave packet (CCWP) method for solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation for inelastic, nonreactive gas phase atom–diatom collisions. The approach is novel in that (a) it is an initial value rather than boundary value method, (b) it can be formulated to either avoid or include the ...

Spherical wave close coupling wave packet formalism for gas phase nonreactive atom–diatom collisions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1987
In this paper we discuss the use of the total angular momentum representation in the close coupling-wave packet (CCWP-J) method for solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation for inelastic, nonreactive gas phase atom–diatom collisions. This enables the wave packet propagation for the relative motion to be reduced from three dimensions to one.

Body frame close coupling wave packet approach to gas phase atom–rigid rotor inelastic collisions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1989
The close coupling wave packet (CCWP) method is formulated in a body-fixed representation for atom–rigid rotor inelastic scattering. For total J>jmax the computational cost of propagating the coupled channel wave packets in the body frame scales approximately as N3/2 where N is the total number of channels.

Investigation of Gas Flow Stability of Close-Coupled Gas Atomization Nozzle based on RSM and CFD

Metal powder production by gas atomization is widespread due to the powder morphology and high production yield for additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy processes. Increasing the process efficiency through nozzle geometry optimization is essential for sustainability. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) can be used to optimize the nozzle geometry

Positron impact ionisation of rare gas atoms by a distorted wave method with close coupled target states

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1998
Abstract Total cross sections for positron impact ionisation of rare gas atoms at incident energies from the ionisation threshold up to about 1 keV have been calculated by a distorted wave method with close-coupled target states. Contributions from n s and n p electron ejection from the outer shell are both included.
