Decoherence of Macroscopic Closed Systems within Newtonian Quantum Gravity
A theory recently proposed by the author aims to explain decoherence and the thermodynamical behaviour of closed systems within a conservative, unitary, framework for quantum gravity by assuming that the operators tied to the gravitational degrees of ...

Minimal surfaces and eigenvalue problems
We show that metrics that maximize the k-th Steklov eigenvalue on surfaces with boundary arise from free boundary minimal surfaces in the unit ball. We prove several properties of the volumes of these minimal submanifolds.

We prove that toric cubes, which are images of $[0,1]^d$ under monomial maps, are the closures of graphs of monotone maps, and in particular semi-algebraically homeomorphic to closed balls.

The contact characteristics of angular contact ball bearings are closely related to the thermal failure of high-speed spindle systems. This paper establishes a closed-loop iterative model for analyzing the ball–race contact characteristics of machine ...

The volume of random polytopes circumscribed around a convex body
Let $K$ be a convex body in $\mathbb{R}^d$ which slides freely in a ball. Let $K^{(n)}$ denote the intersection of $n$ closed half-spaces containing $K$ whose bounding hyperplanes are independent and identically distributed according to a certain ...

RELATIVELY WEAKLY OPEN SETS IN CLOSED BALLS OF $C^*$-ALGEBRAS [PDF]
The main result is that for an infinite-dimensional \(C^\ast\)-algebra, any relatively weakly open subset of the unit ball has diameter 2. The corresponding result for uniform algebras was proved by \textit{O. Nygaard} and \textit{D. Werner} [Arch. Math. 76, No. 6, 441--444 (2001; Zbl 0994.46006)].

Ball valves are widely used as flow control devices wherein a hollow, perforated ball pivots to control the liquid flowing through it. Due to a simple structure and only a quarter-turn of the stem required for either a fully open or fully closed state ...

Rigid ball-polyhedra in Euclidean 3-space
A ball-polyhedron is the intersection with non-empty interior of finitely many (closed) unit balls in Euclidean 3-space. One can represent the boundary of a ball-polyhedron as the union of vertices, edges, and faces defined in a rather natural way.
