Complications of closed chest trauma
The American Journal of Surgery, 1959Abstract The preceding cases have been used to illustrate various types of closed chest trauma and their complications. The need for team management for the severely injured patient is obvious. We have had good success with the cooperation of the neurosurgeon, urologist, orthopedist, thoracic surgeon, general surgeon, oral surgeon and physiotherapist.

Rupture of Thoracic Aorta Due to Closed-Chest Trauma
Archives of Surgery, 1964Traumatic rupture of the thoracic aorta is not necessarily a fatal injury. Although over 80% of victims 1 so injured die before reaching a hospital, the immediate survivors should all be candidates for successful emergency surgical correction if the diagnosis is made promptly. Scintigraphy of major closed chest cardiac trauma in childhood
Pediatric Radiology, 1988Nonpenetrating chest trauma may result in significant myocardial contusion, a diagnosis which may not be considered due to the apparent "triviality" of the trauma, or may be initially overshadowed by more visible injuries. The presence of myocardial contusion may only become apparent through developing complications and rarely may be lethal.

Archives des maladies du coeur et des vaisseaux, 2002Cardiac rupture is certainly unrecognised in the context of closed chest trauma. There have been few reports in the literature despite the fact that autopsy series show that it is the second cause of death after serious thoracic injury. The authors report three cases of traumatic rupture of the heart.
