Scaling Laws of Heat Flux Width in the HL-2A Closed Divertor Tokamak

Chinese Physics Letters, 2022
The scaling law of divertor heat flux width is one of the key topics of magnetic confinement fusion, which is almost inversely proportional to the poloidal magnetic field on some opened divertor tokamaks. This work focuses on the scaling laws of the closed divertor heat flux width in the HL-2A tokamak under different discharge conditions, such as the ...

Design and installation of the closed helical divertor in LHD

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2010
Abstract Neutral particle behavior in the Large Helical Device heliotron has been investigated to conduct the effective particle control using the intrinsic helical divertor. It was revealed that the torus in–out asymmetry observed in the neutral pressure distribution depended on the divertor particle flux distribution, and thus, on the operational ...

Biasing of closed double null poloidal divertor plates on TdeV

Physics Letters A, 1992
Abstract Bias voltages applied to the divertor plates in TdeV (Tokamak de Varennes) permit fine control of several main plasma parameters, including the poloidal rotation velocity near the separatrix, microturbulence, the sawtooth period and the heat pulse propagation speed.

Scaling of the divertor power spreading (S-factor) in open and closed divertor operation in JET and ASDEX Upgrade

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2015
Abstract An experimental database of the power spreading into the target private flux region (S-factor) from ASDEX Upgrade and JET outer target data has been gathered and analysed. The power spreading, combined with the Scrape-Off Layer heat flux decay length λ q , determines the power exhaust channel width at the divertor target.

Study of a closed divertor with strong gas puffing on JFT-2M

Nuclear Fusion, 1999
In order to improve the particle control capability of the divertor and to demonstrate the possibility of a dense and cold divertor with high confinement plasmas, a closed divertor study has been carried out on the JFT-2M tokamak. When a strong gas puff is applied into the divertor chamber, a baffling effect is revealed by enhanced radiation ...

Optimization of Closed Divertor Configuration for Effective Particle Control in LHD Plasmas

Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2008
AbstractNeutral particles in the LHD plasma periphery are investigated by three‐dimensional neutral particle transport simulation. The simulation predicts significant change of the density profile of neutral particles depending on magnetic configurations (radial position of the magnetic axis Rax ).

Initial experiments towards edge plasma control with a closed helical divertor in LHD

Nuclear Fusion, 2013
A baffle-structured closed helical divertor (CHD) is being constructed in the Large Helical Device to actively control the edge plasma, which consists of ten discrete modules installed on the inboard side of the torus. At this stage, two of the ten modules have been constructed.

Periodical Motion of Ionized Front in a Closed Divertor Simulator

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
The dynamics of plasma contacting with the enormous neutral particles has been investigated experimentally by using a closed‐divertor simulator. It has been observed that the ionized front periodically moves in and out of the closed divertor region, as the neutral gas is injected sufficient amount for achieving plasma detachment in the divertor region.

New modular heliotron system compatible with closed helical divertor and good plasma confinement

Nuclear Fusion, 1995
A new helical system ('modular heliotron') with improved modular coils compatible with an efficient closed helical divertor and a good plasma confinement property is proposed, based on a heliotron system with continuous helical coils and one pair of poloidal coils.
