A Compromise for Closed System Anesthesia
Anesthesia & Analgesia, 1978Closed system anesthesia is economical, minimally, polluting, and conserves a patient's airway heat and moisture. Yet this method of anesthesia is not widely used because it is considered dangerous by many clinicians. We review the origins of that belief and then test the application of 2 schemes for administering potent agents in a closed system with ...

Rapidly increasing performance requirements of large applications have led to the development of closely coupled systems. These systems are characterized by large numbers of processing elements interconnected by some scalable high performance network. While these architectures provide the processing power required, additional operating system support ...

On Closed Subsets of Root Systems
Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1994AbstractLet R be a root system (in the sense of Bourbaki) in a finite dimensional real inner product space V. A subset P ⊂ R is closed if α, β ∊ P and α + β ∊ R imply that α + β ∊ P. In this paper we shall classify, up to conjugacy by the Weyl group W of R, all closed sets P ⊂ R such that R\P is also closed.

Microcontrollers for closed caption system
IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 1992Novel microcontrollers for closed caption system applications are described. The microcontrollers provide TV systems with the closed caption function when used with a front-end LSI. The microcontrollers employ an 8-b CPU core and integrated the closed caption decoding function and all functions required for TV set control.

Closed and Semi-closed Systems in Agriculture
2018Agriculture is the endeavor that served for thousands of years as a cradle for human civilizations. However, it may also act as a brake. Indeed, climate change is increasingly constraining the available pool of land and water resources. The current agriculture has become highly dependent on a flow of chemical input from pesticide and insecticide ...

On closed or almost closed compartment systems
Mathematical Biosciences, 1973Abstract For certain exceptional compartment systems, namely those that are mamillary or catenary, and either closed or almost closed, it is shown that observation of only one compartment can uniquely determine the coefficient matrix of the compartment system, the elements of which represent the fractional material transport rates among the ...

Triple star systems, especially those in which one star has very small mass may be more common than has been generally considered. Here is summarized some of the recent evidence supporting this possibility.

Closely coupled multiprocessor systems
Proceedings of the 14th annual Southeast regional conference on - ACM-SE 14, 1976This paper presents the results of an effort to determine the performance, operational characteristics, hardware and software requirements, and the potential applications base for a symmetric system of closely coupled multiprocessors. Based on experience described herein, multiprocessing provides an effective way to increase the range of system ...

Population Growth in a Closed System
SIAM Review, 1983Volterra’s model for population growth in a closed system includes an integral term to indicate accumulated toxicity in addition to the usual terms of the logistic equation. Solutions to this equation are studied by means of singular perturbation techniques.

Galenus’ beloved theory rejected and replaced by a closed loop with a single central pump, the heart. The two ventricles pump directly into two arterial high pressure reservoirs, which are assigned responsibility for perfusion of their peripheries. Starling’s observations that cardiac output is exquisitely sensitive to venous return to the heart.
