Clostridium caseinilyticum sp. nov., a close relative of Clostridium tepidum and Clostridium sporogenes, isolated from spoiled cheese and silage. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Syst Evol Microbiol
Several Clostridium species are responsible for significant losses in the food industry. Here, a novel obligately anaerobic, spore-forming, motile bacterium, designated Clostridium caseinilyticum sp. nov., was isolated from hard and extra-hard cheeses with a defect consisting of a degradation of the cheese matrix.

Emended descriptions of Clostridium acetobutylicum and Clostridium beijerinckii, and descriptions of Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum sp. nov. and Clostridium saccharobutylicum sp. nov. [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2001
On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequencing and DNA-DNA reassociation, industrial solvent-producing clostridia have been assigned to four species. In this study, the phenotypic characteristics of Clostridium acetobutylicum, Clostridium beijerinckii, 'Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum', and an unnamed Clostridium sp.

EFFECT OF SOME ADDITIVES ON SOME PATHOGEIC BACTERIA AND AFLATOXINS ON LOCAL IRAQI MEAT PRODUCTS (BASTURMA) DURING STORAGE [PDF]

open access: yesMesopotamia Journal of Agriculture, 2010
The objective of this study was to determine the influence of adding ascorbic acid, nitrate and nitrite, sodium phosphate, lactic acid and acetic acid at different concentrations on the growth of some pathogenic bacteria that contaminate the locally ...

q-PCR Methodology for Monitoring the Thermophilic Hydrogen Producers Enriched from Elephant Dung

open access: yesFermentation, 2022
This study aims to create a quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR) methodology for monitoring the hydrogen-producing mixed cultures enriched from elephant dung using alpha-cellulose as a carbon source through five generations of repetitive sub ...

Characterization of novel psychrophilic clostridia from an Antarctic microbial mat: description of Clostridium frigoris sp. nov., Clostridium lacusfryxellense sp. nov., Clostridium bowmanii sp. nov. and Clostridium psychrophilum sp. nov. and reclassification of Clostridium laramiense as Clostridium estertheticum subsp. laramiense subsp. nov. [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2003
Taxonomic studies were performed on four strains (D-1/D-an/IIT, C/C-an/B1T, A-1/C-an/C1T and A-1/C-an/IT) of anaerobic, gram-positive, spore-forming bacteria originally isolated from a mat sample retrieved from a shallow, moated area around Lake Fryxell, an Antarctic freshwater lake.

Biohydrogenation of linoleic acid by Clostridium sporogenes, Clostridium bifermentans, Clostridium sordellii and Bacteroides sp. [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1985
Several strains of Clostridium bifermentans, Clostridium sporogenes and Clostridium sordellit and one strain of Bacteroides sp. hydrogenate linoleic acid into transvaccenic acid in vitro following the same pathway. Linoleic acid (18:2; 9-cis, 12-cis) was first isomerised into 9-cis, 11-trans-octadecadienoic acid, after which the 9-cis double bond was ...

Clostridium colicanis sp. nov., from canine faeces [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2003
Morphological, biochemical and molecular genetic studies were performed on an unknown, anaerobic, rod-shaped organism isolated from faeces of a canine. The organism was tentatively identified as a member of the genus Clostridium based on its cellular morphology and ability to form endospores but, biochemically, it did not appear to correspond to any ...

Clostridium jejuense sp. nov., isolated from soil [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2004
A strictly anaerobic, mesophilic, endospore-forming bacterium, designated strain HY-35-12T, was isolated from a soil sample in Jeju, Korea. Cells of this isolate were Gram-positive, motile rods that formed oval to spherical terminal spores. Strain HY-35-12T grew optimally at 30 °C, pH 7·0 and 0–0·5 % (w/v) NaCl.

Enterococcus Spp. Survival Through the Use of Standard Protocol for Clostridium Sp. Isolation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2021
The genera Clostridium and Enterococcus are very different from each other, both morphologically and physiologically. Due to the high resistance by the sporulation capacity of Clostridium species, the thermal shock is a characteristic tool used for the ...
