Monthly distribution of cloud‐to‐ground lightning flashes as observed by lightning location systems [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2006
This paper presents a comparison among the mean monthly distributions of the number of cloud‐to‐ground (CG) flashes, the percentage of positive CG flashes and the peak current of negative and positive CG flashes obtained in Brazil for the period from 1999 to 2004, with the same distributions observed by similar networks for long time periods in other ...

Style Brush: Guided Style Transfer for 3D Objects

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We introduce Style Brush, a guided 3D style‐transfer method for textured meshes that provides precise creative control. It supports the use of multiple style images, smooth transitions and intuitive guidance, producing visually appealing textures that follow user intent as we demonstrate in our user study and results. Abstract We introduce Style Brush,

Computation of electromagnetic fields from lightning discharge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Electromagnetic fields from lightning can couple to electrical systems and produce transient overvoltages, which can cause power and telecommunication outages and destruction of electronics.

Giant Planet Lightning in Nonideal Gases

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
Lightning has been directly observed or inferred on all giant planets, generally accepted to be occurring in their water clouds. However, much as Earth has both cloud–cloud and cloud–ground lightning, this does not mean all flashes occur in a narrow ...

Behind Closed Doors: How Boardroom Silence and Implicit Theories Shape Corporate Governance

open access: yesCorporate Governance: An International Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research Question/Issue Why do directors, despite formal authority and oversight responsibilities, remain silent in the boardroom, and how does such silence shape governance outcomes? Research Findings/Insights Silence in boards is not a passive absence but a routinized governance practice.

An enhancement of the ionospheric sporadic‐E layer in response to negative polarity cloud‐to‐ground lightning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Lightning data, collected using a Boltek Storm Tracker system installed at Chilton, UK, were used to investigate the mean response of the ionospheric sporadic-E layer to lightning strokes in a superposed epoch study.

Unraveling the active site cover of coproheme decarboxylase from Listeria monocytogenes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
During heme biosynthesis in Gram‐positive bacteria, coproheme decarboxylase (ChdC) catalyzes the conversion of four‐propionate substrate coproheme to the two propionate product heme b. Its active site is universally covered by a flexible linking loop. This study identifies an important histidine residue, which stabilizes the loop in a ChdC homolog.

Green Emissions From Sprite Tops

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Although sprite discharges above thunderstorms have been studied for about 35 years, science enthusiasts reported the existence of long‐duration green light emissions from sprite tops only recently using commercial digital cameras and named these events green ghosts.
