Mechanism and Control of Cloud Cavitation

Journal of Fluids Engineering, Transactions of the ASME, 1997
Generation mechanism of cloud cavitation on a hydrofoil section was investigated in a sequence of experiments through observation of cloud cavitation by high-speed video and high-speed photo as well as pressure measurements by pressure pick-ups and a hydrophone. The mechanism was also investigated by controlling cloud cavitation with an obstacle fitted

Investigation of Unsteady Sheet Cavitation and Cloud Cavitation Mechanisms

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1999
Sheet cavitation on a foil section and, in particular, its unsteady characteristics leading to cloud cavitation, were experimentally investigated using high-speed visualizations and fluctuating pressure measurements. Two sources of sheet cavitation instability were evidenced, the re-entrant jet and small interfacial waves.

Modern approaches to the description of the dynamics of cavitation bubbles and cavitation clouds

MORSKIE INTELLEKTUAL`NYE TEHNOLOGII)</msg>, 2023
Cloud cavitation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007
In many cavitating liquid flows, when the number and concentration of the bubbles exceeds some critical level, the flow becomes unsteady and large clouds of cavitating bubbles are periodically formed and then collapse when convected into regions of higher pressure.

Frequency in Shedding/Discharging Cavitation Clouds Determined by Visualization of a Submerged Cavitating Jet

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2008
Visualization of a highly submerged cavitating water jet was done by high-speed camera photography in order to study and understand the jet structure and the behavior of cloud cavitation within time and space. The influencing parameters, such as injection pressure, nozzle diameter and geometry, and nozzle direction (convergent and divergent), were ...

Spectral Characteristics of Sheet/Cloud Cavitation

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2000
Cavitation observations were made using a highly instrumented 2D NACA 0015 hydrofoil mounted in a specially designed water tunnel. It was found that the dynamic characteristics of the cavitation vary considerably with various combinations of angle of attack and cavitation number, σ.

Scale effect on unsteady cloud cavitation

Experiments in Fluids, 2012
No experiment was conducted, yet, to investigate the scale effects on the dynamics of developed cavitating flow with periodical cloud shedding. The present study was motivated by the unclear results obtained from the experiments in a Venturi-type section that was scaled down 10 times for the purpose of measurements by ultra-fast X-ray imaging (Coutier ...
