Cloud condensation nuclei and visible pollution in Los Angeles
Atmospheric Environment (1967), 1972Abstract Simultaneous measurements of cloud condensation nuclei and light scattering in Los Angeles down to a visibility of 7.5 miles are presented. It is shown that, in Los Angeles, air pollution is a good source of nuclei. Their concentration increases with decrease in visibility.

Cloud Condensation Nuclei from a Simulated Forest Fire
Science, 1969Measurements made downwind of a simulated forest fire showed that the concentration of cloud condensation nuclei active at a supersaturation of 1 percent was increased by a factor of about 2.5. Smaller increases were observed at lower supersaturations.

Organic aerosols as cloud condensation nuclei
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000The CCN activities of both pure organic aerosol species as well as secondary organic particles created in a smog chamber were investigated. Activation diameters were experimentally determined using a Tandem Differential Mobility Analyzer (TDMA) and a thermal diffusion Cloud Condensation Nucleus Counter (CCNC). Laboratory experiments were performed at 0.

Cloud Condensation Nuclei on the Atlantic Seaboard of the United States
Science, 1976Concentrations of cloud condensation nuclei measured along the East Coast from Virginia to Long Island ranged from 1000 to 3500 per cubic centimeter as compared to 100 per cubic centimeter in clean maritime air and 300 per cubic centimeter in continental air. The global anthropogenic production rate of cloud condensation nuclei may be comparable to the

Formation and distribution of cloud condensation nuclei in the marine environment
Journal of Aerosol Science, 1992Abstract Measurements of condensation nuclei (CN) over the remote Atlantic Ocean averaged to concentrations of 100–400 cm −3 . The activation rate of CN as CCN showed a mean of 40–57% in all ranges of supersaturation. In addition bulk particle samples were taken and analyzed for sulfate, methanesulfonate (MSA) and nitrate.

Cloud Condensation Nuclei Measurements in Shiptrails.
1995Abstract : Enhancements of droplet concentrations in clouds affected by four ships were fairly accurately predicted from ship emission factors and plume and background cloud condensation nucleus (CCN) spectra. Ship exhausts thus accounted for the increased droplet concentrations in these ship tracks.

Cloud Condensation Nuclei and their Possible Influence on Precipitation
Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1971Abstract Measurements of cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) conducted both from the ground and from an instrumented aircraft during two winter seasons, utilizing a thermal diffusion chamber, suggest that. CCN spectra prove to always have, in both rainy and dry weather, continental-like characteristics.

Cloud condensation nuclei measurement uncertainties: Implications for cloud models
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) spectra can be either measured directly or predicted using Kohler theory initialized with aerosol physicochemical property (APP) data. APP (aerosol composition and size spectra), the CCN spectrum, cloud droplet number concentration (CDNC), and vertical velocity (w) at the base of a convective cloud updraft are ...

Technique for studying the chemistry of cloud condensation nuclei
Atmospheric Research, 1986Abstract When clouds are formed from water, ethanol or cyclohexane the relation between numbers of CCN activated over the range of supersaturations 0.25–1.25% can provide data on the chemistry of these very small, relatively numerous and environmentally important particles.

Impacts of Nanoparticle Events on Cloud Condensation Nuclei and Cloud Microphysical
2017This dissertation examines aerosol properties above a forested site in the Piedmont of central Virginia and evaluates the effects of those aerosols on convective cloud properties using a cloud resolving model. During the measurement period between October and December, 2006, aerosol size distributions and hygroscopicity varied among air mass source ...
