The Parameterization of Cloud Cover

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
AbstractThis is a contribution to the long standing search by climatologists and meteorologists for the parameterization of cloud cover. The described developments have led to an analytical expression for the probability density function of cloud cover that can easily be parameterized. A step-by-step procedure for the parameterization based on a sample

Metabolic Regulation of Dimethylsulfoniopropionate Cleavage and Dimethyl Sulfide Production in Halomonas sp. D47

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a major marine organosulfur compound central to climate‐relevant dimethyl sulfide (DMS) production. In Halomonas sp. D47, DMSP catabolism is revealed to be coordinated by two transcriptional regulators, AcuR and AcuZ, which control gene expression by sensing DMSP and its metabolites.

Scalable, Microwave‐Enabled Synthesis of Ternary WxTi1‐xO2 and Heterostructured TiO2‐WO3‐x Colloidal Nanocrystals: Carrier Dynamics and Photocatalytic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two microwave‐assisted synthetic methods, specifically a one‐pot and a seeded‐growth approach, are developed within a hydroalcoholic solution for the growth of single‐phase ternary WxTi1‐xO2 and heterostructured TiO2‐WO3‐x colloidal nanocrystals. Both types of nanocrystals show significant photocatalytic activity for 4‐methoxybenzyl alcohol oxidation ...

Spatiotemporal Variability of Cloud Parameters and Their Climatic Impacts over Central Asia Based on Multi-Source Satellite and ERA5 Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing
As key components of the climate system, clouds exert a significant influence on the Earth’s radiation budget and hydrological cycle. However, studies focusing on cloud properties over Central Asia are still limited, and the impacts of cloud variability ...

Studies in the use of cloud type statistics in mission simulation [PDF]

open access: yes
A study to further improve NASA's global cloud statistics for mission simulation is reported. Regional homogeneity in cloud types was examined; most of the original region boundaries defined for cloud cover amount in previous studies were supported by ...

Bio‐Based Wax Interfaces for Droplet Energy Harvesting at Fluoropolymer‐Like Output Levels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Replacing unsustainable fluorinated polymers in droplet‐based energy harvesters is usually limited by low power outputs, but carefully selected bio‐based polymers are capable of creating fluoropolymer‐like voltage outputs. Abstract Droplet impact and rebound on solid surfaces has emerged as a promising method for energy harvesting, typically ...
