Machine Learning-Based Deforestation Monitoring and Forecasting Using Sentinel-2 Imagery: A Case Study in Narra, Palawan [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
Manual approaches to deforestation monitoring are time-consuming, inconsistent, and difficult to scale. Most existing systems rely on subjective interpretation or semi-automated tools, limiting repeatability and real-time assessment.

Classification of ALS Point Cloud with Improved Point Cloud Segmentation and Random Forests [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
This paper presents an automated and effective framework for classifying airborne laser scanning (ALS) point clouds. The framework is composed of four stages: (i) step-wise point cloud segmentation, (ii) feature extraction, (iii) Random Forests (RF) based feature selection and classification, and (iv) post-processing.

Physics‐Informed Machine Learning for Sustainable Alloy Design: Toward a Recyclable Unified Q&P Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A physics‐informed property‐bridging framework links high‐throughput hardness screening to tensile performance in quenching and partitioning steels. By transferring metallurgically guided representations across properties, a single alloy composition is designed to achieve multiple strength grades through heat‐treatment tuning alone, offering a ...

Resistant Peanut Genotype Reprograms Rhizosphere Metabolism to Enhance Bacterial Wilt Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The resistant peanut genotype selectively recruits beneficial bacteria, which coincides with the activation of salicylic acid (SA)‐dependent systemic acquired resistance (SAR) against Ralstonia solanacearum. Keystone rhizosphere metabolites are positively correlated with both beneficial microbiome assembly and SAR gene expression.

Different habitat condition proportions on farms affect the structure and diversity of dung beetle (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Scarabaeinae) communities

open access: yesTropical Zoology
The continuous changes and increase of land use into ranching and agriculture have caused shifts in the composition and structure of dung beetle communities due to the modification of vegetation structure.

Epiphytic bryophytes of Monteverde, Costa Rica

open access: yes, 2001
A survey of the literature and collections in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve and adjacent pastureland yielded a total of 198 epiphytic bryophyte taxa (120 species of hepatics in 50 genera, 77 species of moss in 48 genera, and 1 hornwort): 178 in ...

An assessment of the use of airborne LiDAR for estimating growth of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) plantation forestry at Kielder Forest, UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A growing need exists for the collection of accurate and up-to-date information on forest growth rates for management purposes. Recent studies indicate that airborne laser scanning (ALS) offers a quicker and more cost-effective approach than the ...
