Saltmarshes in coastal wetlands provide important ecosystem services. Satellite remote sensing has been widely used for mapping and classification of saltmarsh vegetation, however, medium-spatial-resolution satellite datasets such as Landsat-series ...

Evidence of nitric acid uptake in warm cirrus anvil clouds during the NASA TC4 campaign [PDF]
Uptake of HNO3 onto cirrus ice may play an important role in tropospheric NOx cycling. Discrepancies between modeled and in situ measurements of gas-phase HNO3 in the troposphere suggest that redistribution and removal mechanisms by cirrus ice have been ...

Due to the limitation of optical images that their waves cannot penetrate clouds, such images always suffer from cloud contamination, which causes missing information and limitations for subsequent agricultural applications, among others.

Quantifying wet scavenging processes in aircraft observations of nitric acid and cloud condensation nuclei [PDF]
Wet scavenging is an important sink term for many atmospheric constituents. However, production of precipitation in clouds is poorly understood, and pollutant removal through wet scavenging is difficult to separate from removal through dry scavenging ...

Thin cloud removal from single satellite images
A novel method for removing thin clouds from single satellite image is presented based on a cloud physical model. Given the unevenness of clouds, the cloud background is first estimated in the frequency domain and an adjustment function is used to suppress the areas with greater gray values and enhance the dark objects.

The Circumbinary Outflow: A Protostellar Outflow Driven by a Circumbinary Disk [PDF]
The protostellar outflows have indispensable role in the formation of single stars, because they carry off the excess angular momentum from the centre of the shrinking gas cloud, and permits further collapse to form a star.

Correction of "Cloud Removal By Fusing Multi-Source and Multi-Temporal Images"
Remote sensing images often suffer from cloud cover. Cloud removal is required in many applications of remote sensing images. Multitemporal-based methods are popular and effective to cope with thick clouds.

Tails of the Unexpected: The Interaction of an Isothermal Shell with a Cloud
A new mechanism for the formation of cometary tails behind dense clouds or globules is discussed. Numerical hydrodynamical models show that when a dense shell of swept-up matter overruns a cloud, material in the shell is focussed behind the cloud to form

Stochastic processes, galactic star formation, and chemical evolution. Effects of accretion, stripping, and collisions in multiphase multi-zone models [PDF]
This paper reports simulations allowing for stochastic accretion and mass loss within closed and open systems modeled using a previously developed multi-population, multi-zone (halo, thick disk, thin disk) treatment.

Search for Anderson localization of light by cold atoms in a static electric field
We explore the potential of a static electric field to induce Anderson localization of light in a large three-dimensional (3D) cloud of randomly distributed, immobile atoms with a degenerate ground state (total angular momentum $J_g = 0$) and a three ...
