The retrieval of warm rain from CloudSat [PDF]
[1] An algorithm for the retrieval of warm rain over oceans for CloudSat that uses ancillary information from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument is presented. The method builds upon the architecture of the standard CloudSat 2C-RAIN-PROFILE product.

Deriving snow cloud characteristics from CloudSat observations [PDF]
There has been so far no global estimate of snowfall. CloudSat has, for the first time, provided an opportunity for us to conduct such an estimate. The present study seizes this opportunity and attempts to investigate the global snowfall characteristics using its cloud radar observations.

Cluster analysis of tropical clouds using CloudSat data [PDF]
The mesoscale patterns of cloud/precipitation radar reflectivity from early CloudSat data are used to identify distinct tropical cloud regimes via a cluster analysis. Five basic cloud regimes are identified, and the geographical distribution of their occurrence frequency is quantified.

Cloud profiling radar for the cloudsat mission
IEEE International Radar Conference, 2005., 2005The cloud profiling radar (CPR) for the upcoming CloudSat mission is a spaceborne 94-GHz nadir-looking radar that measures the power backscattered by clouds as a function of distance from the radar. This sensor is expected to provide cloud measurements at a 500-m vertical resolution and a 1.5-km horizontal resolution. CPR operates in a short-pulse mode
