Optimizing Temperature Requirements for Clover Seed Germination
Core Ideas Temperature significantly affects the time and rate of clover (Trifolium spp.) germination. Germination and vigor were evaluated from −1.0 to 48.0°C at approximately 1.0°C increments. Tested cultivars maintained 80% + germination from 4.9 to 28.2°C, on average.

Overseeding dormant bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] ‘Tifton 85’ with cool‐season annuals in the southeastern United States could provide winter and spring forage or bioenergy feedstock. We overseeded cool‐season annual legumes and grasses in monocultures or mixtures into dormant Tifton 85 and compared aboveground dry matter (DM) and N yields

Temperature Affects the Germination of Forage Legume Seeds
ABSTRACT Temperature, in addition to moisture, oxygen, and light, plays an important role in seed germination. Early seedling emergence and stand establishment can be promoted by germination of seeds under a wide range of temperatures; therefore, it is desirable for commercial legume cultivars to germinate over a range of temperatures. The objective of

ABSTRACT Legumes have potential to transfer fixed N to nonlegume crops via grazing or decomposition as well as improve production, seasonal distribution, nutritive value, soil structure, and fertility in forage systems. This article summarizes the legume establishment, management, and grazing production experiments conducted in the southern Great ...

Expected Economic Potential of Substituting Legumes for Nitrogen in Bermudagrass Pastures
ABSTRACT Grazing warm‐season grass pastures with stocker cattle (Bos taurus) is an important economic activity in the southern Great Plains, and substantial increases in the price of N fertilizer have negatively affected profitability of forage producers.

ABSTRACTFrench serradella (Ornithopus sativus Brot.) is an annual pasture legume typically grown on acidic soils, but its potential for production in low‐rainfall, neutral to alkaline sandy soils of southern Australia is poorly documented. A series of experiments across low‐rainfall mixed‐farming regions assessed the adaptive advantages of French ...

Abstract Light brown apple moth, Epiphyas postvittana (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is a major pest of fruit crops, ornamentals and horticultural crops around the world. It is known to feed on over 70 plant species in Australia, where it is native, yet has never been recorded in almonds (Prunus amygdalus Batsch) (Rosales: Rosaceae) in this ...
