Digital Competence and Learner Engagement in AI‐Mediated Higher Education: A Mixed‐Methods Study of the Moderating Role of Cognitive Load in EFL Contexts

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Education, Volume 61, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT With the growing integration of artificial intelligence into higher education, digital competence has become central to learners' meaningful engagement in AI‐mediated learning environments. However, its role may be constrained by the cognitive load generated when students navigate complex digital tools, resources, and learning tasks.

Adaptive Estimation for Weakly Dependent Functional Times Series

open access: yesJournal of Time Series Analysis, Volume 47, Issue 5, Page 1013-1027, September 2026.
ABSTRACT We propose adaptive mean and autocovariance function estimators for stationary functional time series under 𝕃p−m‐approximability assumptions. These estimators are designed to adapt to the regularity of the curves and to accommodate both sparse and dense data designs.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind? The Impact of Issue Proximity on Policy Choice at the Individual Level

open access: yesReview of Policy Research, Volume 43, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Scholars have extensively studied the link between issue definition and policy choice. However, empirical evidence on the role of issue proximity on policy support at the individual level remains scarce. The study draws on policy and management literatures to examine whether framing an issue as more or less spatially proximate to an individual

Concurrent Multi‐Scale Simulation of Progressive Damage in Laminated Composites Using Shell Finite Elements

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 16, 30 August 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a study on multi‐scale modelling of progressive damage model in laminated composites using shell finite elements, with considerations for the effects of manufacturing defects. The approach utilises second‐order homogenisation with 5‐parameter shell formulation to capture the effects of complex sub‐structural geometry and ...

Pyridyl‐Thiazole‐Thiosemicarbazones as Antitrypanosomatidae Agents: Design, Synthesis, and In Silico Profiling

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
A novel pyridine–thiazole derivative, Compound 8, exhibited potent dual antitrypanosomatid activity. It demonstrated remarkable in vitro efficacy against Trypanosoma cruzi (IC50 = 1.0 µM) and L. amazonensis (IC50 = 3.9 µM). Molecular docking studies suggested interactions with heme and multiple molecular targets.
