Guidelines for High‐Throughput Screening for Natural Products With Anti‐Aging Activity Based on Drosophila Intestinal Homeostasis

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aging represents a critical risk factor for chronic diseases, driving an urgent demand for interventions promoting healthy longevity. This study establishes standardized guidelines for high‐throughput screening (HTS) of anti‐aging natural products using Drosophila melanogaster, leveraging its intestinal homeostasis as a biomarker.

Population balance modeling and digital design of degree of agglomeration in industrial crystallization

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This study presents a coupled population balance model (PBM) for describing the degree‐of‐agglomeration (DoA) in crystallization by independently tracking total particle and agglomerate number densities. Applied to an industrial active pharmaceutical ingredient, the model outperformed bridge‐counting methods and accurately captured DoA trends ...

Gas–liquid mass transfer enhancement in the presence of nanoparticles under slug flow in microreactors

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Nanofluids containing nanoparticles represent a promising solvent or reaction system for gas–liquid operations. Herein, the effect of nanoparticle (Al2O3 and SiO2) addition on gas–liquid slug flow pattern and mass transfer enhancement was investigated during CO2 absorption into water in microreactors.

Digital Evaluation of Cigarette Smoke Clumping Based on Aerosol Particle Analysis

open access: yesIEEE Access
Cigarette smoke clumping, an important indicator of smoke status, draws consumer attention due to its correlation with smoke concentration, thickness, fullness, and the clumping index, which significantly affects the sensory quality of cigarettes. Due to

Digital hemispherical photography for estimating forest canopy properties: current controversies and opportunities

open access: yesiForest - Biogeosciences and Forestry, 2012
Hemispherical photography has been used since the 1960s in forest ecology. Nevertheless, specific constraints related to film cameras have progressively prevented widespread adoption of this photographic method.

Toward Predictable Nanomedicine: Current Forecasting Frameworks for Nanoparticle–Biology Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Predictive models successfully screen nanoparticles for toxicity and cellular uptake. Yet, complex biological dynamics and sparse, nonstandardized data limit their accuracy. The field urgently needs integrated artificial intelligence/machine learning, systems biology, and open‐access data protocols to bridge the gap between materials science and safe ...

Improving GEDI L2B Leaf Area Index Estimation Using a Four-Scale Geometric Optical Model in Temperate Forests

open access: yesRemote Sensing
LAI is a critical parameter for forest management and global ecosystem monitoring. GEDI provides global-scale vegetation structure data, yet its L2B LAI product often exhibits systematic biases. This study investigates the Maoer Mountain forest in China,

Uncertainty Analysis in the Creation of a Fine-Resolution Leaf Area Index (LAI) Reference Map for Validation of Moderate Resolution LAI Products

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2015
The validation process for a moderate resolution leaf area index (LAI) product (i.e., MODIS) involves the creation of a high spatial resolution LAI reference map (Lai-RM), which when scaled to the moderate LAI resolution (i.e., > 1 km) allows for ...

Canada-wide foliage clumping index mapping from multiangular POLDER measurements

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2005
In this paper, vegetation canopy structural information is retrieved over Canada from multiangular Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS-1) polarization and directionality of the earth's reflectance (POLDER) data based on canopy radiative transfer simulations using the Five-Scale model.

Dielectric Elastomer Actuators as Safe and Effective Tools for Mechanostimulation of Human Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Replicating physiological forces is crucial for realistic cell models. Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) offer a soft alternative, though their high voltages raised toxicity concerns. We demonstrate that DEA stimulation causes no cell damage, cell death or cell‐cycle disruption, while activating mechanosensitive responses.
