Fish haemoglobins: the order Clupeiformes

Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries, 1999
The haemoglobin systems of the order Clupeiformes have been studied by several researchers in 41 species belonging to three out of its five families. Most of them were investigated in the native form using electrophoretic methods, and a few were also examined from the functional point of view. Both approaches corroborate the widespread view that acidic

A new species of Stolephorus (Clupeiformes: Engraulidae) from the Bay of Bengal, India

Zootaxa, 2020
A new fish species, Stolephorus tamilensis sp. nov., is described from the East coast of India. The major distinguishing characters are 5–6 small needle-like pre-pelvic scutes on belly; maxilla tip pointed, reaching to border of operculum, concave and indented in the preoperculum; 25–28 gill rakers on lower lobe of the first branchial arch; dorsal fin ...

Duplication of the LDH gene loci by polyploidization in the fish order Clupeiformes

Human Genetics, 1968
Within the order Clupeiformes, chromosome analysis and DNA measurements have indicated a diploid-tetraploid relationship among closely related species. To confirm the presence of polyploidization at single gene loci we studied the LDH isoenzyme system. The results obtained are in agreement with the hypothesis of polyploidization.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Coilia grayii (Clupeiformes: Engraulidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2015
In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Coilia grayii has been determined by long polymerase chain reaction and primer walking methods. The mitogenome is a circular molecule of 16,851 bp in length and contains 37 mitochondrial genes including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and

Abnormal hermaphroditism in Pellona flavipinnis (Clupeiformes: Pristigasteridae)

Journal of Fish Biology, 2018
This study records the occurrence of a hermaphrodite individual of the apapá Pellona flavipinnis captured in a floodplain area of the Amazon River. Histology of the left gonad revealed the presence of testicular germ cells (spermatocytes and spermatozoa) in the cranial portion and mature ovarian cells (primary and vitellogenic oocytes) in the caudal ...

Taxonomic status of Engraulis nattereri Steindachner, 1880 (Osteichthyes: Clupeiformes: Engraulidae)

Zootaxa, 2015
Engraulis nattereri Steindachner, 1880 was described on the basis of five specimens collected in Pará during the Nathaniel Thayer Expedition. Later on, the species was assigned to Anchoviella by Fowler (1941). Including Anchoviella nattereri (Steindachner, 1880), Anchoviella comprises 17 small to medium-sized valid species (20–160 mm standard length ...

First report of the Taiwan sardinella Sardinella hualiensis (Clupeiformes: Clupeidae) in the Philippines

Journal of Fish Biology, 2011
A range expansion of the Taiwan sardinella Sardinella hualiensis to the Philippines is reported. The data suggested that the southern translocation of S. hualiensis occurred across oceanographic features that are typically barriers to small, pelagic fish dispersal.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence ofCoilia ectenes(Clupeiformes: Engraulidae)

Mitochondrial DNA, 2012
In this paper, the complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence of Coilia ectenes was determined. The complete mtDNA genome sequence of C. ectenes is 16,852 bp in length. It consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two rRNA genes and two non-coding regions. Overall base composition of mitogenome is estimated to be 31.15% for A, 27.18%
