ABSTRACT Global increases in tree mortality from climate change and land‐use are altering forest structures, impacting canopy‐dwelling plants like vascular epiphytes, which depend on host trees (phorophytes). When a phorophyte dies standing, it becomes a snag, the local substrate conditions change and microclimatic exposure may increase, particularly ...

The roots of Hypericum hypericoides (Clusiaceae) have yielded five prenylated benzophenone derivatives. Three of these are new: 18-hydroxy-7-epi-clusianone, 18-hydroxyclusianone, isolated as the acetate, and 18-hydroxyhyperibone K.

We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Stemflow Dynamics in the Jamari National Forest (Brazilian Amazon): I. The Role of Tree Structure
A portion of rainfall that contacts tree canopies is drained down tree stems as stemflow. Stemflow is an underexamined component of rainfall partitioning in tropical forests. To investigate how tree canopy structural attributes influence stemflow in the Brazilian Amazon, we measured stemflow, rainfall, and dendrometric parameters of 56 trees in the ...

This research approaches the interaction between frugivorous fish and the flooded forests in the central Amazon. We evaluated the fruit consumption by fish and the seed dispersal potential along the flood gradient. We tested the hypothesis that the role of fish as seed dispersers varies between low várzea (LV) and high várzea (HV) forests.
