The Adjoint of CMAQ

Environmental Science & Technology, 2007
An adjoint model for the internationally used Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling platform of the U.S. EPA is developed. The adjoint version for CMAQ (CMAQ-ADJ) provides the user community with forward (decoupled direct method or DDM) and backward (adjoint) sensitivity analysis capabilities.

CMAQ in the states : a preliminary assessment of the CMAQ program's contribution toward meeting ozone standards

1998
The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program provides funds to states for projects designed to help metropolitan areas attain and maintain the national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). The objective of this analysis is to estimate the potential contribution of the CMAQ program in helping ozone non-attainment areas to move ...

Simulation at Neighborhood Scale with Cmaq

2004
We investigate air quality (AQ) modeling at very high spatial resolutions (on order of 1-km horizontal grid spacing), defined as neighborhood scales, as a means to perform human exposure and risk-based assessments (with emphasis on air toxic pollutants).

An objective comparison of CMAQ and REMSAD performances

Atmospheric Environment, 2006
Abstract Photochemical air quality modeling systems are the primary tools used in regulatory applications to assess the impact of different emission reduction strategies aimed at reducing air pollutant concentrations to levels considered safe for public health.

Learning from Experiments: An Evaluation Plan for CMAQ Projects [PDF]

open access: possible, 1998
The Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality Program (CMAQ), established in 1991 by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) to provide about $1 billion per year to fund transportation projects that improve air quality, is intended both to support traditional transportation control measures and to encourage innovation in developing new ...

Evaluation of Fine Particle Number Concentrations in CMAQ

Aerosol Science and Technology, 2006
The Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model is widely used in air quality management and scientific investigation. Numerous studies have been conducted investigating how well CMAQ simulates fine particle mass concentrations, but relatively few studies have addressed how well CMAQ simulates fine particle number distribution. Accurate simulation of

Diagnostic Evaluation of Carbon Sources in CMAQ

2013
Traditional monitoring networks measure only total elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) routinely. Diagnosing model biases with such limited information is difficult. Measurements of organic tracer compounds have recently become available and allow for more detailed diagnostic evaluation of CMAQ modeling results, which allow for more explicit ...

Systematic bias of WRF-CMAQ PM10 simulations for Seoul, Korea

Atmospheric Environment, 2021
Abstract For evaluating the performance of the Korean operational air quality model (Weather Research and Forecasting-Community Multiscale Air Quality), we compared the simulated concentrations of particulate matter with diameters ≤ 10 μm (PM10) against observations in Seoul, Korea for the cold seasons (October through March) of 2015–2018.

Applying for and using CMAQ funds

1997
This guide provides the basic concepts to aid in an alternative fuel vehicle market development program developing an application for Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program funding. The U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities Program is an aggressive, forward-thinking alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) market development program.

Application of Models-3/CMAQ on Asian Dust Storm

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
A coupled modeling system has been developed to describe the mineral dust cycle in the atmosphere. It is composed of MM5, ECIP, WE (wind erosion model) and CMAQ. A strong dust storm of North China in 2002 is simulated by this system. The modeled results show good consistent with observations and pre-existing researches in aspects of dust emission flux ...
