A Bayesian statistical approach for the evaluation of CMAQ

Atmospheric Environment, 2006
Bayesian statistical methods are used to evaluate Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model simulations of sulfate aerosol over a section of the eastern US for 4-week periods in summer and winter 2001. The observed data come from two U.S. Environmental Protection Agency data collection networks.

An objective comparison of CMAQ and REMSAD performances

Atmospheric Environment, 2006
Abstract Photochemical air quality modeling systems are the primary tools used in regulatory applications to assess the impact of different emission reduction strategies aimed at reducing air pollutant concentrations to levels considered safe for public health.

CMAQ in the states : a preliminary assessment of the CMAQ program's contribution toward meeting ozone standards

1998
The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program provides funds to states for projects designed to help metropolitan areas attain and maintain the national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). The objective of this analysis is to estimate the potential contribution of the CMAQ program in helping ozone non-attainment areas to move ...

Simulation at Neighborhood Scale with Cmaq

2004
We investigate air quality (AQ) modeling at very high spatial resolutions (on order of 1-km horizontal grid spacing), defined as neighborhood scales, as a means to perform human exposure and risk-based assessments (with emphasis on air toxic pollutants).

Ozone sensitivity analysis with the MM5-CMAQ modeling system for Shanghai

Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2011
Ozone has become one of the most important air pollution issues around the world. This article applied both O3/(NO(y)-NO(x)) and H2O2/HNO3 indicators to analyze the ozone sensitivity in urban and rural areas of Shanghai, with implementation of the MM5-CMAQ modeling system in July, 2007. The meteorological parameters were obtained by using the MM5 model.

Diagnostic Evaluation of Carbon Sources in CMAQ

2013
Traditional monitoring networks measure only total elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) routinely. Diagnosing model biases with such limited information is difficult. Measurements of organic tracer compounds have recently become available and allow for more detailed diagnostic evaluation of CMAQ modeling results, which allow for more explicit ...

Evaluation of Fine Particle Number Concentrations in CMAQ

Aerosol Science and Technology, 2006
The Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model is widely used in air quality management and scientific investigation. Numerous studies have been conducted investigating how well CMAQ simulates fine particle mass concentrations, but relatively few studies have addressed how well CMAQ simulates fine particle number distribution. Accurate simulation of

Improving the particle dry deposition scheme in the CMAQ photochemical modeling system

Atmospheric Environment, 2022
Dry deposition of atmospheric aerosols in large-scale models is a critical, but highly uncertain, sink process with a strong dependence on particle size, meteorological conditions, and land surface properties. This study investigates the particle dry deposition scheme implemented in the standard Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model v5.2.1 ...

Comparison of spatial patterns of pollutant distribution with CMAQ predictions

Atmospheric Environment, 2006
Abstract To evaluate the Models-3/Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling system in reproducing the spatial patterns of aerosol concentrations over the country on timescales of months and years, the spatial patterns of model output are compared with those derived from observational data.

Applying for and using CMAQ funds

1997
This guide provides the basic concepts to aid in an alternative fuel vehicle market development program developing an application for Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program funding. The U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities Program is an aggressive, forward-thinking alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) market development program.
