Deep Learning Approaches for Classifying Crack States With Overload and Predicting Fatigue Parameters in a Titanium Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study proposes a deep learning approach to evaluate the fatigue crack behavior in metals under overload conditions. Using digital image correlation to capture the strain near crack tips, convolutional neural networks classify crack states as normal, overload, or recovery, and accurately predict fatigue parameters.

Validation of a wide plate finite element model using digital image correlation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
To investigate the influence of global plastic deformations on girth weld defect tolerance in pipelines, a parametric finite element model has been developed. This paper provides an experimental validation of the model.

Assessment of the factor κk,max in classification of steel fiber‐reinforced concrete

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper presents a general approach, and results employed in a study aimed at assessing the value of a coefficient, κk,max, introduced in Annex L in EN 1992‐1‐1:2023 (EC2). This coefficient defines an upper limit of the ratio between steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) characteristic and mean values of the residual tensile strengths, fR1

Size-effect independence of hybrid fiber-reinforced roller-compacted concrete fracture toughness

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access, 2022
The present paper aims to prove the size-effect independence of Hybrid Fiber-Reinforced RCC (HyFR-RCC) fracture toughness determined through the Modified Two-Parameter Model (MTPM).

Design of a (mini) wide plate specimen for strain-based weld integrity assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Wide plate tension tests are commonly executed to investigate the integrity of defective welds under a uniaxial load. The specimen can be flat or curved, depending on the geometry from which it has been extracted (plate or pipe).

Experimental and design‐oriented research on fiber reinforced concrete segmental tunnel linings: A systematic review

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The use of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in precast tunnel segments is among the most established and representative applications of this material. Over the past two decades, numerous tunnel linings were constructed with partial or total substitution of conventional steel reinforcement by fibers, this yielding to quantifiable benefits in ...

Punching shear of unbonded post‐tensioned steel fiber reinforced concrete slabs: The fiber contribution

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) enhances the flexural capacity of flat slabs and, due to its effectiveness in statically redundant bi‐dimensional elements, represents a viable alternative to conventional reinforcement. Although numerous studies have investigated the flexural behavior of SFRC slabs with and without bonded reinforcement ...

Performance of the Direct Current Electric Potential Difference (DCEPD) Method for Crack Extension Measurement in Fracture Mechanics Specimens Exhibiting Split Delaminations

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This work investigates the performance of the direct current electric potential difference (DCEPD) method for measuring crack extension (∆a$$ \Delta a $$) during fracture toughness tests of ductile steels exhibiting delaminations perpendicular to the main crack plane, known as splits.
