Aerosol meteorology of Maritime Continent for the 2012 7SEAS southwest monsoon intensive study - Part 2: Philippine receptor observations of fine-scale aerosol behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
. The largest 7 Southeast Asian Studies (7SEAS) operations period within the Maritime Continent (MC) occurred in the August–September 2012 biomass burning season. Data included were observations aboard the M/Y Vasco, dispatched to the Palawan Archipelago

Evaluation of Satellite-Based Precipitation Products from IMERG V04A and V03D, CMORPH and TMPA with Gauged Rainfall in Three Climatologic Zones in China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
A critical evaluation of the newly released precipitation data set is very important for both the end users and data developers. Meanwhile, the evaluation may provide a benchmark for the product’s continued development and future improvement.

An Assessment of Extreme Precipitation Trends in the Missouri River Basin: Insights From Three Gridded Precipitation Data Sets and Climate Indices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 1, January 2026.
The current study shows that extreme precipitation is playing a larger role in the hydroclimate of the Missouri River Basin. This study provides information on the shifts in extreme precipitation in the Missouri River Basin. Multi‐day heavy precipitation events have also been becoming more intense through the 1981 to 2022 period.

Diurnal Cycle in Different Weather Regimes and Rainfall Variability over Borneo Associated with ENSO [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The interannual variability of precipitation over the island of Borneo in association with El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has been studied by using the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) gridded rain gauge precipitation, the NOAA Climate

Comparative Evaluation of Gridded Precipitation Datasets in Capturing Hydrological Extremes in a Mesoscale Heterogeneous Catchment in Austria

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 12, December 2025.
Although all precipitation products performed relatively poor in representing extreme precipitation events, their performance varied across elevations. Furthermore, SPARTACUS v2.1 and IMERG‐F v07 generated streamflow simulations that broadly align with observations. However, CHIRPS v2.0 and ERA5‐Land underperformed.

ASoP (v1.0): a set of methods for analyzing scales of precipitation in general circulation models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
General circulation models (GCMs) have been criticized for their failure to represent the observed scales of precipitation, particularly in the tropics where simulated daily rainfall is too light, too frequent, and too persistent.

A Hybrid Four‐Dimensional Variational Data Assimilation System for the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS‐Atmosphere): Leveraging the Joint Effort for Data Assimilation Integration (JEDI)

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 17, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract A global Four‐Dimensional Ensemble Variational (4DEnVar) data assimilation system for the Atmospheric component of the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS‐A) is presented that uses the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI).

The impact of uncertain precipitation data on insurance loss estimates using a flood catastrophe model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Catastrophe risk models used by the insurance industry are likely subject to significant uncertainty, but due to their proprietary nature and strict licensing conditions they are not available for experimentation.

Evaluating the Performance and Applicability of Satellite Precipitation Products over the Rio Grande–San Juan Basin in Northeast Mexico

open access: yesAtmosphere
Accurate observation of precipitation data is crucial for hydrometeorological applications, requiring temporal and spatial precision. Satellite precipitation products offer a promising solution for obtaining precipitation estimates, facilitating long ...
