Detection of CMV DNA in the Aqueous Humor of AIDS Patients with CMV Retinitis by AMPLICOR CMV Test
Ophthalmologica, 2003The present study was performed to detect the cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in the aqueous humor from the eyes of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients with CMV retinitis. Detection of CMV DNA in the aqueous humor in the eyes with active CMV retinitis was compared with detection of CMV DNA in inactive retinitis.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is widespread in the human population. Normally, in adolescents and adults, prior exposure to CMV can readily be determined by IgG assays. However, in individuals where antibody production is impaired, such as patients with common variable immunodeficiency disease or in the very young where maternal antibodies are ...

Human Immunology, 2004
Considerable progress has been made in our understanding of the immunobiology of infections in immunocompromised hosts. Insights derived from animal model and human studies have provided the rationale to investigate immunotherapy with alphabeta+ T cells to restore responses considered essential for protective immunity to cytomegalovirus infection ...

Immunotherapy of CMV Infections
1996Immunotherapy has not only become the accepted standard for some CMV infections, but also remains an area of active investigation for the treatment and prophylaxis of CMV infections. Polyclonal immunoglobulin administration has improved the survival of CMV pneumonitis in BMT recipients, and monoclonal anti-CMV antibodies, notably MSL-109, appear to ...

Use of CMV transcripts for monitoring of CMV infections in transplant recipients
International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, 2000The development of the nucleic acid sequence-based amplification (NASBA) technology has allowed qualitative determination of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) immediate-early (IE) and late (pp67) transcripts for monitoring of HCMV infections in the post transplantation period.

The Role of CMV in Immunosenescence
2016The term “immunosenescence” is commonly taken to mean age-associated changes in immune parameters hypothesized to contribute to increased susceptibility and severity of the older adult to infectious disease, autoimmunity and cancer. In humans, it is characterized by lower numbers and frequencies of naive T and B cells and higher numbers and frequencies

ABSTRACT The two drugs known to be useful in the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis are ganciclovir and foscarnet—usually they are given intravenously. Intravitreal ganciclovir seems to be even more effective. A pump system to deliver the drug into the vitreous is being developed.

Abstract Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common cause of morbidity in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients, predominantly when severe immunosuppression has occurred. Although CMV infection of the retina and gastrointestinal tract is well recognised as causing substantial morbidity, the significance of infection at other sites ...

AbstractAmong the human herpesviruses, cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the only one that has assumed significant importance in blood transfusion. Transfusion transmission of CMV (TT‐CMV) to seronegative immunocompromised patients can lead to lethal CMV disease.
