CNT-reinforced aluminum composites: processing and mechanical properties

Ciência & Tecnologia dos Materiais, 2013
Abstract This work focus the development of aluminum silicon composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes.Several composites were obtained by a powder metallurgy route through hot pressing technique. The influence of different volume fraction of carbon nanotubes in metallurgical and mechanical properties of the composite was studied.

Nanoindentation of Multi-Wall CNT Reinforced Al Composites

Key Engineering Materials, 2010
This work used nanoindentation to characterize the local mechanical properties of the multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced aluminum (Al) composites. The Al-MWCNT (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 wt.%) specimens were fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) followed by hot extrusion.

Nonlocal bending and buckling of agglomerated CNT-Reinforced composite nanoplates

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2020
Abstract The study presents a nonlocal bending and buckling analysis of agglomerated carbon nanotube-reinforced composite nanoplates resting on a Pasternak foundation. A two-parameter micromechanics model incorporating agglomeration is used to obtain the effective mechanical properties of the nanoplates.

Piezoresistive modelling of CNTs reinforced composites under mechanical loadings

Composites Science and Technology, 2021
Abstract This paper presents an analytical model to describe the influence of mechanical deformation on the effective electrical conductivity of CNTs reinforced composites. The model shows that the effect of mechanical strain on the effective electrical conductivity of CNTs reinforced composites are via two mechanisms; one is the strain-induced ...

The recent progress of functionally graded CNT reinforced composites and structures

Science China Physics, Mechanics & Astronomy, 2019
In the last decade, the functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composites (FG-CNTRCs) have attracted considerable interest due to their excellent mechanical properties, and the structures made of FG-CNTRCs have found broad potential applications in aerospace, civil and ocean engineering, automotive industry, and smart structures. Here we review

Cyclic heating and mechanical properties of CNT reinforced cement composite

Composite Structures, 2021
Abstract The heating performance of cement composites can be improved by adding carbon nanotubes (CNTs); however, cyclic heating by CNTs can reduce the heating and mechanical properties of CNT-reinforced cement composite in the long term. This study investigated the cyclic heating and mechanical properties before and after the heating of CNT ...

Effect of an interphase region on debonding of a CNT reinforced polymer composite

Composites Science and Technology, 2010
Abstract The effect on stiffness and debonding of an interphase zone of altered polymer properties surrounding each carbon nanotube (CNT) in a CNT reinforced polymer composite is investigated. The interphase zone has position dependent material properties that merge with those of the polymer at a sufficiently large distance from the inclusion.

Characterizing the strength and elasticity deviation in defective CNT reinforced composites

Composites Communications, 2016
Abstract In this paper, the Multiscale 3D Representative Volume Element approach is proposed for modeling the elastic behavior of carbon nanotubes reinforced composites with vacancy defects. The Carbon Nanotube has been modeled using atomistic scale by Molecular Structural Mechanics.

Fabrication of CNT-Reinforced HAp Composites by Spark Plasma Sintering

Materials Science Forum, 2007
Carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced hydroxyapatite (HAp) composites were fabricated by using the spark plasma sintering process with surfactant modified CNT and HAp nano powder. Without the dependency on sintering temperature, the main crystal phase existed with the HAp phase although a few contents of β-TCP (Tri calcium phosphate) phase were detected ...

Effects of the Length of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) in CNT Reinforced Composites

Key Engineering Materials, 2006
In this paper, the strength of the singular stress field near the ends of the CNTs in composites was analyzed to clarify the effects of the CNT length on stress filed in the CNT reinforced composites when studying the fracture toughness. The singular stress field was separated into two types of singularities, symmetric and skew-symmetric, near the ends
