Pilot-scale anaerobic digestion of on-farm agro-residues: Boosting biogas production and digestate quality with thermophilic post-digestion

open access: yesWaste Management Bulletin
Environmental challenges associated with the disposal of organic farm waste and the growing demand for renewable energy underscore the importance of anaerobic digestion (AD), a process that converts organic matter into biogas and nutrient-rich digestate,

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Bio-Fertilizers via Co-Digestion: a Review

open access: yesPath of Science, 2019
In diversifying the economies of most oil producing countries especially in regions with arable lands, Agriculture becomes the next choice aside mineral deposits. This has led to a search for an alternative to inorganic fertilizers, the alternatives are the biofertilizers.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Synergistic Role of Low-Strength Ultrasound and Co-Digestion in Anaerobic Digestion of Swine Wastewater

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Swine manure poses significant challenges for anaerobic digestion due to its low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio and elevated ammonia concentrations, both of which restrict methane generation.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Anaerobic co-digestion technology in solid wastes treatment for biomethane generation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sustainable Energy, 2017
Anaerobic co-digestion is considered to be an efficient way of disposing solid wastes which can not only reduce environmental burden, but also produce bioenergy.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Synergistic and Pretreatment Effect on Anaerobic Co-Digestion from Rice Straw and Municipal Sewage Sludge

open access: yesBioResources, 2014
Anaerobic digestion is considered to be a priority disposal technology for rice straw and sewage sludge. In this study, the synergistic and alkali-treat effect on co-digestion of rice straw and sewage sludge was investigated.
