Digital Simulation of Dominant Eddies of A Co-Flowing Jet

2009
This paper described a method for virtual construction of turbulent jet flow field from a limited set of experimental data. The objective is for jet visualization enhancement in near-field plume models. The method is based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), which is an efficient tool to capture the turbulent field based on principal ...

Effect of jet velocity in co-flow water cavitation jet peening

Wear, 2016
Abstract Water cavitation jet peening (WCP) uses cavitation caused by the shear layer created by two concentric co-flowing jets with large velocity difference to introduce compressive residual stresses in the surface layers of metal components subjected to fatigue loading or a corrosive environment.

Combustion of gaseous coflow jets

Combustion Science and Technology, 2003
We present numerical results concerning the combustion that occurs in a three-plan jet system, which represents the two-dimensional version of a coflow gaseous injector of hydrogen and oxygen. The study focuses on the hydrodynamic effects--damped by combustion--that affect the high-speed jets at the entrance of a combustion chamber.

Experimental Investigation of Jet Mixing Mechanism of Co-Flow Jet Airfoil

5th Flow Control Conference, 2010
The jet mixing of a co-flow jet (CFJ) airfoil is investigated to understand the mechanism of lift enhancement, drag reduction, and stall margin increase. Digital Particle Image Velocimetry, flow visualization and aerodynamic forces measurements are used to reveal the insight of the CFJ airfoil mixing process.

Liposome Formation Using a Coaxial Turbulent Jet in Co-Flow

Pharmaceutical Research, 2015
Liposomes are robust drug delivery systems that have been developed into FDA-approved drug products for several pharmaceutical indications. Direct control in producing liposomes of a particular particle size and particle size distribution is extremely important since liposome size may impact cellular uptake and biodistribution.A device consisting of an

Aerodynamic flow-vectoring of a planar jet in a co-flowing stream

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002
The vectoring of an incompressible, two-dimensional jet in a co-flowing stream is investigated by means of direct numerical simulation. The control input used to stimulate jet vectoring is accomplished through distributed suction from blunt-faced lips at the exit of the jet.

Cavitation inception in quiescent and co-flow nozzle jets

Journal of Hydrodynamics, 2010
The prediction and scaling of cavitation inception in jets remains a difficult task. This paper presents findings of an experimental investigation to study the cavitation inception of quiescent and co-flow submerged jets. Experimental data were collected in the ARL/PSU 12-inch and 48-inch Diameter Water Tunnels.

Measurements of aerosol product in an axisymmetric co-flow jet

Experiments in Fluids, 2000
An experimental investigation explored the effects of varying reactant concentration and Reynolds number on the formation of product in a jet of air/N2/HCl flowing into a co-issuing stream of air/NH3. Turbulent mixing resulted in the production of NH4Cl particles by a chemical reaction with negligible heat release. Laser light was elastically scattered

Jet interaction in a still or co-flowing environment

2014
The problem of jet interaction between a line of merging jets in a co-flowing ambient fluid is dealt with in the thesis. A comprehensive study is conducted into the interaction between the jet and its co-flowing ambient environment and between the jet and its neighboring discharges, with and without the presence of a co-flowing ambient current.

Mixing Mechanism of a Discrete Co-Flow Jet Airfoil

41st AIAA Fluid Dynamics Conference and Exhibit, 2011
The flow mechanism leading to the enhanced performance of a discrete co-flow jet (dCFJ) airfoil is investigated. Flow visualization and DPIV are used to analyze the difference between the flow along discrete jets and over the tabs used for discretization of the slot jet.
