Carbon‐free inert anodes are essential for decarbonizing aluminum electrolysis. This study investigates a recyclate‐based MgO‐316L steel composite anode tested under galvanostatic Hall–Héroult conditions in cryolite at 1000°C. Microstructural analysis reveals selective MgO fluorination, spinel and oxide layer formation, electrolyte infiltration, and ...

The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

A novel PFG-NMR method to determine CO2 solubility in geological carbon storage
Solubility is a dominant trapping mechanism for geological carbon storage (GCS). CO2 dissolution into aquifer water, mainly affected by formation pressure, temperature and salinity, which in turn regulate water molecules self-diffusion coefficient(D0 ...

In this paper, a generalized methodology has been developed to determine the diffusion coefficient of supercritical CO2 in cores that are saturated with different oil samples, under reservoir conditions. In theory, a mathematical model that combines Fick&

We present a study of the dynamical behavior of a Ziff-Gulari-Barshad model with CO desorption and lateral diffusion. Depending on the values of the desorption and diffusion parameters, the system presents a discontinuous phase transition between low and

A benign, low Z electron capture agent for negative ion TPCs [PDF]
We have identified nitromethane (CH$_3$NO$_2$) as an effective electron capture agent for negative ion TPCs (NITPCs). We present drift velocity and longitudinal diffusion measurements for negative ion gas mixtures using nitromethane as the capture ...

EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Modelling acid attack of oilwell cement exposed to carbonated brine: effect of specimen geometry on experimental results [PDF]
In recent years, the authors and co-workers have developed a diffusion-reaction model for the degradation process of oilwell cements exposed to carbonated brines in the context of CO2 capture and storage in abandoned oil reservoirs.

A carbon‐free, as‐sintered MgO–steel cermet anode, fabricated via cold isostatic pressing using MgO–C refractory recyclate, was evaluated under laboratory‐scale K‐cryolite electrolysis at 800°C. Operation at this reduced temperature, combined with the electrolyte's limited electrical conductivity, led to an increase in cell voltage.
