Digital documentation of railway tunnel inspection in Austria

open access: yesCivil Engineering Design, Volume 7, Issue 1, Page 3-8, March 2025.
Abstract Infrastructure, especially railway tunnels, require continuous inspection to ensure their safety. Furthermore, the detection of damages at an early stage can improve their service life. These tasks represent a major challenge for those involved and the tunnel down time is a disruption in operation.

Balancing climate change mitigation and environmental protection interests in the EU Directive on carbon capture and storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The EU Climate and Energy Package highlights the potential contradictions between the climate change imperative of reducing GHGs emissions and the importance to maintain environmental integrity. While the package supports climate change mainstreaming, it

Engineering Biochar‐Derived Functional Materials for High‐Performance Supercapacitors: Design Principles, Mechanisms, and Scalable Strategies

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biochar has emerged as a useful and adaptable source of carbon for supercapacitor electrodes. Its value comes from the way biomass chemistry, thermal conversion, and activation conditions shape the resulting pore network, surface groups, and degree of carbon ordering.

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

CO2 geological storage prospects of Lithuania – update

open access: yesBaltic Carbon Forum, 2023
The CO2 geological storage assessment in the Cambrian saline aquifers in west Lithuania is considerably improved by 3D seismic survey of the Gargždai Elevation and Syderiai Uplift. The CO2 storage capacity of the Syderiai site is assessed as large as 56.7 Mt (area 62 km2) owing to the high reservoir properties (average porosity 17 % and permeability ...

Variable Temperature Studies of Two Calcium Uranates α‐Ca3UO6 and Ca2UO5

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The structures and thermal responses of the calcium uranates α‐Ca3UO6 and Ca2UO5 were investigated using in situ synchrotron x‐ray diffraction and neutron powder diffraction. Despite the very similar chemical compositions, the structural response of the two calcium uranates is shown to be complex and varied.
