Electrothermal Cutting Processes Using a CO2 Laser

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1972
The application of lasers to industrial electrothermal processes is discussed together with the factors affecting the choice of laser. The use of gas jet assistance in cutting applications is described, and the influence of gas jet assistance on the cutting rate and cut quality for metals and nonmetals is shown.

Precision CO2 Laser Cutting of Small Parts

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
With the expanding application of laser machining in the industrial environment, various laser types such as CO2, Nd:YAG and Nd:Glass have to a certain extent been identified for use in specific applications, both by laser manufacturers and the user community.

Cutting of Aluminium and Titanium Alloys by CO2-Lasers

1990
Al and Ti are critical metals for laser cutting because of dross formation and their high affinity to atmospheric gases resulting in decreased properties of cut parts. The present paper outlines current experiences in laser cutting of Al- and Ti-based aerospace alloys.

Laser cutting of steel with the revolutionary turbolase T1000 CO2 laser

ICALEO '82: Proceedings of the Materials Processing Symposium, 1982
The TURBOLASETM T1000 is perhaps the first laser specifically designed for metal cutting. The T1000 employs Photon’s unique TURBOTUBETM that delivers 1000 watts of solid laser energy to produce smooth, straight cuts with no more than four optical elements in the entire cutting system.

Design of an optical system for high power CO2 laser cutting

ICALEO 2003: 22nd International Congress on Laser Materials Processing and Laser Microfabrication, 2003
The results of a design study for the optical system for cutting with high power CO2 lasers (6 kW and up) will be presented. As transparent materials cannot be used for these power levels, mirrors have been applied. A coaxial cutting gas supply has been designed with a laser beam entrance into the pressured gas chamber, by means of an intermediate ...

Cutting copper sheets using CO2 lasers

Hyperfine Interactions, 1987
In this work various problems concerning cutting copper sheets using CO2 laser are reported. First, all copper thermophysical properties, that regulate the process dynamics, and then the weight of each parameter has been evaluated numerically, even though only approximately.

Laser cutting from CO2 laser to disc or fiber laser – Possiblities and challenges

ICALEO 2011: 30th International Congress on Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing and Nanomanufacturing, 2011
Now, nearly a decade since the introduction of the high brilliance solid state lasers, an evolution of industrial high power laser materials processing is ongoing. In this paper will be focused on the largest market for high power lasers: metal laser cutting. The state-of-the-art of laser cutting with fibre-and disc-lasers
