Breakfast can Affect Routine Hematology and Coagulation Laboratory Testing: An Evaluation on Behalf of COLABIOCLI WG-PRE-LATAM

open access: yesTH Open, 2019
Laboratories worldwide perform both hematological and coagulation testing on patients avoiding fasting time. In 2017, the Latin America Confederation of Clinical Biochemistry (COLABIOCLI) commissioned the Latin American Working Group for Preanalytical ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Determination of sample stability for a broad panel of coagulation parameters and factor assays on the Cobas t 711 analyzer starting from fresh-never-frozen plasma

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences
BackgroundPreanalytical procedures can affect the accuracy of coagulation assay results. Recommended plasma storage temperatures and durations need to be defined for individual coagulation assays.

Haematalogical investigations in children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The haematology laboratory is able to perform a number of tests to help establish the cause of illness in children. The full blood count (FBC, also known as a complete blood count, CBC) is one of the most basic blood tests performed on children ...

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Lupus Antibody Mimicking Reduced Plasmatic Coagulation in a Patient With Atrial Fibrillation and Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Background: Lupus anticoagulant (LA) owns procoagulant properties in vivo and prolongs phospholipid-dependent clotting times in vitro. The prolonged in vitro clotting time can be misinterpreted as a bleeding disorder.
