Quantifying social costs of coal-fired power plant generation

open access: goldGeography and Sustainability, 2023
Coal has been dominating the electricity supply in Indonesia, especially in long-term power generation from fossil energy. This dominance is due to lower production costs in coal-fired power plant generation. However, this low price is only based on monetary costs and ignores the social costs.

Public Preferences for Replacing Hydro-Electricity Generation with Coal-Fired Power Generation

open access: diamondJournal of Energy Engineering, 2015
Although coal-fired power generation has played a role as base load unit, it has incurred various social costs in the process of generating and providing electricity. It is necessary to extend the proportion of low-carbon power generations, and reduce the ratio of coal-fired power generation to cope with global climate changes.

The Prospects for Coal-Fired Power Generation in Saudi Arabia

open access: greenSSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
Abstract Almost all of Saudi Arabia's electric power generation is fueled by oil and gas. Plans for future capacity envisage nuclear and renewables supplementing this mix and thereby freeing up oil for other revenue-generating opportunities. Coal-fired generation has been promoted in some Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries but not, so far, in ...
